This seems in direct contract to a lot you've said the last year or so promoting GSD? Or are you joking, kinda hard to tell from this end.
But to OP @Jackytwoshoes, GSD is not in reality any smaller footprint than a Douse, Bullitt, Load 60/70/80 or any of the others, talking a few centimeters here and there. Find a way to keep your existing cargo if you can I guess is simplest.

You wont want to hear this but just in terms of diff between a long tail and long john the ride feel is night and day, had a bullitt in the past, then GSD and now a Load 60. Long johns ride so much nicer, much more stable. If you get a stormbox on the tern with kid so high up in the wind its quite unsettling feeling and esp if they are moving.
We bought the GSD for sharing as Bullitt standover was too tall for my partner.
