At least the 2015 and onwards number play a role. In my view mainly to strengthen racist narratives, followed by it beeing more open.
But we had a lot of openly visible racism of all kinds for a long time.
And she wasn't a great leader, it was 16 years of get nothing done. But that gets a bit too complicated for the time if day.
We have alarmingly high numbers that vote right wing afd.

Was the racism as bad before Merkel took in so many refugees? I hope she will go down in history as one of the great leaders for that. Are there many Germans who see it that way?
