    I have been living in a number of flats in the past two decades, which have been really quite different in regards to how much of an issue noise / music was. Both because of the buildings were different and because of the neighbours were different.

    Regarding bass it really depends a lot on the thickness of the walls / whether it's brick and mortar or drywall etc. (more mass absorbs more bass : )
    At the moment I live somewhere with a lot of drywall, and also wooden floors, this is basically the worst combinaton.
    Isolating your speakers (subwoofer in your case) does help a lot though!

    I agree with timmah that a soundbar will probably be a nice upgrade for you already.
