Yeah it turned out fine.
I'm used to them being quick and straightforward but somehow this time wasn't that at all. I've had cantis/v brakes on nearly every bike I ever. If I wasn't attached to the brake levers I'd get v brakes. -

I'm currently in Berlin visiting some 'non-cycling friends'. Could someone please recommend some independent bike shops worth checking out?

Industry interest?
Classic coop including own brand steel, radspannerei.
Cool young omnium and vintage 90s, crow cyclery.
Best guy in biz small and real, Schweinhund Bikes.
Incredible expensive classics, steel vintage bikes.*
Running for ages real east Berlin, Radsport Heinze. But a bit far out.
Impressive cargo bike store, velogut.
The classic bikes hipster fixie store, cicli berlinetta.
And of course the gentle jaunt.*No particular order, but love (sometimes grumpy, sorry @Sig_Arlecchino) radspannerei. And Schweinhund is great but more from a viable small business point.
Gentle jaunt and steel vintage probably best to do window shopping.

Ah of course the standert flagship store probably the most fu for eyeing up expensive stuff. It's in a great building basically on the interesting end of Friedrichstrasse.
If you're there the rose store isn't far and you're almost at crow cyclery.
If you're in that area also go to König gallery. He's an asshole, but his brutalist church space is nice. -

Thanks! Will def check out Crow - I follow their courier page on IG, didn’t know there was a shop also.
I’m not in the industry, but I used to be a courier in London and owned/rode an Omnium.

I was busy yesterday and didn’t make Crow before it closed. Next time!
Dropped by Radspannerei a couple hours ago and found the staff excellent - friendly and knowledgeable despite having to transact in Englische sprache due to my very basic German.

Hi all, does anyone have a shop recommendation for installing dynamo hub/light cabling?
More specifically, I want to use some SON parts which need to be soldered which I don't have the equipment for. Ideally I'd find somewhere that both stocks the parts and knows what they're doing. -

I have those fancy connectors lying in my basement. Even managed to buy a soldering iron you could borrow, but never got further than that...

Arne from Schweinhund Bikes has neat cabling on his bikes.
Wherever you go I would give it to them before the spring my brakes don't work hordes (hopefully) storm the independent bike shops of Berlin. -

Radspannerei Kreuzberg should be able to help you out, ask Daniel at the Workshop or Jan or Jörg in the Shop.

Thanks for the offer but I know from experience my soldering isn’t up to much!

Yep! Munro wheels is his wheel building business

Heading over to Berlin in summer with gf but unfortunately this time I'm not bringing my bike.
Is there any preferred place for bike hire. Looking more for something to explore the city (ie for an afternoon/day) so doesn't need to be a particularly flash but also don't want to face crippling costs if bikes don't get returned to a docking station inside a half hour.
Advice gratefully received

There's listnride or what's it called, Airbnb for bikes I guess, crow cyclery mentioned above rents out hip 90s MTBs there. 17€ a day though.
There where loads of city bike rental places under 10 a day, feels like stupid scooter sharing and COVID killed many of those. -

There also must be quite some bikes to go around on this thread. I am meant to sell some/most are a bit flashy, but in theory you could borrow one.

I just installed front rear son lights. Do you 100% need to solder?
-

Guess he has the fancy connectors like this.
They need soldering and look like it might be rather fiddly.
