I don't remember that, but I do remember the Richmond Park TT speed chit chat somewhat. Didn't David Millar do a "definitely not the speed limit" pace in an organised event. Or maybe it was just a Strava KOM or 3 lap challenge thing. There was a lot of chatter about speed limits then anyway.

it only has to happen once for CTT to become practically uninsurable.
Fair point. If I ever raced again it'd still only be on the fastest courses I could get into anyway. Zero interesting in TTing "interesting" courses other than maybe a point to point or loop thing for RRA

My view (for what it’s worth!) is events on more “rural” courses, hilly events etc through villages will be lost, a few years ago the CTT wanted us off of dual carriageways, soon we will be all back on them racing because sporting courses will no longer exist, as soon as a council issues a 20 zone on a course it’s lost! I’ve overtaken cars on H10/1 through the Woolhampton Village 30mph zone, cars have overtaken me approaching the village and then seen the Gatso!!

Back to the times when racing was done in the dark because it was illegal.

Alpaca, 82” fixed, U -Turn in the middle of the road. No more No-Pinz! We can write our number on our left arm! TT goes full circle!!

gbj_tester:
I know there are some, but isn't a highway authority imposing a 20mph limit just a far more expert and disinterested voice in the ear of a CTT risk assessor who had made the wrong call in the first place?
hippy:
If they're assessing actual risk, then they still wouldn't be imposing a 20mph speed limit to bikes though.
20mph is a general policy and doesn't tend to get risk-assessed on an individual basis (exceptions apply, of course), as the benefits of 20mph limits are firmly established, whether they're the outcome of a political decision or are decided at officer level under delegated powers. In any consultation or decision document on 20mph you'll usually find reference to the greatly-reduced risk of serious injury, etc., but nothing relating to the particular location where it's proposed (which is absolutely fine). 20mph limits don't tend to reduce speeds to 20mph but to something between 20 and 30, which is still beneficial even if 20mph isn't attained, as 30mph limits tend to have people driving between 30 and 40.
I don't know how CTT risk assessments work, but they are likely to be very different from risk assessments of traffic schemes, in which aero-socked, bulbous-helmeted people riding strangely-shaped bikes while mostly looking down at the carriageway wouldn't feature all that often, so not comparable.

OK. Frame is here. All is well. Although I will probably rattle can it black.
The wheels I have here look great in it.
Just picked up these profile design bars on ebay too.
Not sure on the rest of the build yet. New base bar and levers would be good. Chucked some old bars on it just to get an idea of what stack I might need etc

Before you even think of painting the frame make sure it fits etc, otherwise you won’t have a hope in hell of selling the bike.

I've already had a play around. It should be all good. Thats my saddle height and there's loads of room to tweak the front end.
But I will hash it together singlespeed to go on the turbo for a few weeks, before I do anything drastic.

Smash the hills, fly down the descents and keep pressing quite hard on the flats.

How do I make up the five mins from last year?
Ride faster.
Happy to help.

This is my strategy, though more emphasis on pressing on the flats. I try not to go over 120% FTP on the hills. Might edge that up to 125 though. My recce on Saturday was only a minute slower than last years race pace.

My memory of NRHR was that you really need to push the hills, coast but fast on descents to recover and then ride flats hard but not at limit so you can smash the hills. You loose a lot of time by not smashing the hills, but you need the anaerobic capacity to do so. I'd ride each hill at a little under my limit for said duration.
Riding it your strategy works and is teh conservative way, but I think would be slower, if you have the anaerobic capacity to do mine.Great event and really great course. Super hard! I ended up puncturing really near the finish when I did it. But I rode it several times before to get the feel of it.
Take care on the descents huh. Easy to over cook it or slip on a damp leaf.

Ooh interesting. 120% does feel a bit too easy so yeah, fuck it, nothing to loose. 130+ for an hour of nasty over-slightly-more-overs.

You could get a free Best Bike Split account which I think allows you to upload a course and this can give you target powers for the climbs. I've done this before for hilly sporting courses...more as a limiter than anything to not go too hard. You'd need your current FTP and to set what your upper %FTP you are comfortable riding to so requires a bit of fettling. But it's fun fettling.

Surely like any great time trialist, he'd still be at the event!
I remember the story of Boardman missing the birth of a kid because he was out reccing a tt course. Might have been world's and not NRHR but still.

Just checking to see if there's any interest but I have some brand new, Shimano Dura Ace Di2 TT End Shifters (SW-R9160) for sale if anybody is interested?

Nope, it was a RTTC national championship course near Hull.

"When my daughter, Harriet, was born in 1991 I took Sally-Anne to the hospital at one on a Saturday morning, went back home, had no problems getting to sleep and got up the next morning. I phoned the hospital and asked, 'What's the score?' and was told by the nurse 'Oh there's no problem, she'll be ages yet.' So I drove to Hull from here on the Wirral because, again, I wanted to see the course. I was riding a national championship on the Sunday and there was no question I wasn't going to ride. While I was up there I got told I had a daughter and so was about the fourth person to know. "

The single-button ones? Maybe. Depends how much. I'm collecting bits and pieces for the Crux but I'm not sure I'll even put aerobars on it. I could use these on the Shiv and move its double buttons to something else.
Wasn't there a bit of minor fuss when Nick English did the first 19 on H10/1 which has a 30mph section?
