  • Never cook fry with extra virgin olive oil, thats for sure, smoke point is on the low side at 190c. Also it does tend to brown cooking surfaces when over heated.
Extra light olive oil has a higher smoke point at 210. I use this, peanut oil, or butter/ghee.

I'd guess that a Le Creuset pan owner would have a preference towards buying nicer EVOO, so their advice isn't completely ludicrous.

  • Thanks all. Ended up pulling the trigger on a eufy 15c max from @spotter eBay link.

Dehumidifier can wait as we are coming out of winter pretty soon and it's a solution to a problem I don't really need to address right now

Will feed back on my experience with the electronic cleaning overlord.

  • Im sure you know, but the 15c is a 'bumper car' style navigation as opposed to the more 'logical' back and forth style. All the reviews I saw though said they were still good at covering a space though, just a bit more random.

Also, to second @Tenderloin comment the Miele C3 is a fantastic, we have one too which we do our weekly 'deep' clean with.
We also have a Shark wireless vac for stairs and awkward spots.
AND Titan Wet/Dry Vac for the car, garage workshop, dust extration and general really dirty stuff. It also works really well as a leaf blower.

  • Cheers mate. Yes I did a bit of research and figured that out on the eufy.

As you say reviews seem generally positive so I'll see how I get on with it. Thanks though appreciate you taking the time to highlight it if I'd missed or anyone else is considering.

  • Where does good washing machine installs?

JL are out of stock of the one I want. Currys have it, but are more expensive and I assume will provide a shit service.

Does anyone have any experience of good install services for washing machines from other suppliers?

    Cheers

  • As in, their installers are decent?

    Sorry I've rephrased the question.

  • Also fuck integrated appliances and the shit cabinets they live in.

It's like everything is designed on the premise of moving house every 5yrs and redoing everything.

Although in fairness we've lived here 8yrs and are only now replacing old white goods. But fuck that, I'm in a mood anyway.

  • Not a dishwasher but AO fitted a hob for me a few months ago and no issues to report. Their customer service was good too.

  • Cheers

  • I had an integrated washer/dryer fitted by ao. They did a decent but not amazing job with fitted the integrated door (although an amazing job would have required some very careful trimming of the plinth and I've not attempted it in the couple of years since). Seemed to take them quite a while but I didn't really care.

MIL had a new standalone cooker fitted by Currys and the installers seemed fine. I suspect there probably isn't much between any of them.

  • New washing machine being delivered Friday. I'm in a first floor flat now and trying to be considerate so thinking about a vibration dampening mat. Do these actually work?

  • We have one.

I am unconvinced how well they work. I feel like it makes some difference, but it's hard to quantity as it's integrated so you always get lots of knocking. People say being level is the most important thing, but I'd still put one down in case.

Idk if this is important to you, but being grippy means moving it afterwards will be tricky.

In case you don't know there are pucks available. I have them under the tumble dryer to raise it. Mine are +18mm vs the 8-10mm of the matt.

  • Lowering the spin speed makes a massive difference if you can cope with slightly wetter clothes at the end.

  • If it's a new model, I would worry more about making sure the installers get it completely level for you as they're installing.

Our Samsung that was new in December is on a 3rd floor next to our bedroom and above another bedroom. I was worried that it would be too noisy that I wouldn't be able to run it overnight, but honestly it's extremely hard to hear anything, and I put this down to the installers taking extreme care to make sure it was completely flat. It's potentially also an improvement with a newer machine. I've had lots of other washing machines in the past make lots of noise and move about while washing, but this one is quiet and hasn't moved a mm.

  • Urgent question, do new integrated washing machines come with hinges into the door?

Looking at one of the hinges it's pretty fucked.

I've got the delivery installers coming in a bit and want to know upfront what kind of bullshit I'm going to get from them.

  • not normally I don't think. Fridges do cos the panel just attaches to the door, but I think washing machines just use the existing door assembly...

  • Bugger.

The hinge is proper fucked. I guess it'll be a common enough thing for me to nip out and grab from wickes while they do the removal and install.

I now absolutely empathise with people who rip out and replace whole kitchens when something breaks.

  • The hinges attaching my cupboard door to integrated washing machine are different to all of the other hinges in my kitchen so I assume they came with the machine.

  • On the topic of built in appliances, my fridge door rail slider (plastic) appears to be squeaky.
Any reason not to use some GT85?

  • Furniture polish is probably better.

  • Got any chain dry lube?

  • Good shout.
Makes a lot of sense, which I have very little of at the moment while struck down with flu...

  • My latest kitchen wish list includes a rice cooker, and air fryer, and lately a pressure cooker.

Normally, I'm all about single purpose appliances - do one thing, do it well.

Except cupboard / surface space would then be a problem.

So: all-in-one shenanigans (and if so, which one) or curb my window shopping and stick to one of three (again, if so, which one).
