Personally, for a few reasons. Most of my runs are pre/post work, so in the shoulder periods around dawn and dusk. It gets me used to wearing it for an ultra later in the year. Helps me to be able to see uneven paving better - the state of public realm in London is appalling. And for visibility (mine has front and rear lights) particularly to cyclists who share the same path.
Why is everyone wearing head torches these days? I ran along the canal yesterday (Limehouse Basin to De Beauvoir) and went past 6 head torch wearers. There is plenty of light all the way. All it does is blind someone running in the opposite direction. Rant over.
