  • thank you, messaged.

  • I seem to remember a plastic crate/storage system recommended (maybe by @Airhead), can someone point me in the right direction? Need to sort the loft out

  • Before the metric system was invented did we not have a way of measuring percentages?

  • We did, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64 and so on.

  • Percent relies on decimal counting, not metric units. Decimal number systems are at least 5000 years old. Using 100 as the standard denominator in fractional financial calculations is at least 2000 years old.

  • Fractions aren't quite the same as percentages though. No two percentages are the same but two fractions can be.

  • No two percentages are the same but two fractions can be.

The point is that people were saying "the import duty is four per hundred" even when they knew that was the same as "one per twenty five", as a way of making comparison and calculation simpler. It doesn't matter whether the units are metric, or even decimal.

  • Getting new phones for my team, can’t quite figure out why an iPhone 15 pro max would be preferable to the 12 or 13 pro max for most phone users. Especially ever more advanced camera capabilities on mobile phones: why? Is it simply to offer the latest and greatest, or do most phone users actually know what it all means, and care?

Are Gen Z and Gen alpha natively communicating in semi-professional short video format instead of written or audio messages like their elders, making advanced camera features literal child’s play?

  • Gen alpha

    There's another one?

  • That’s how generations work? ;)

  • Another place suggesting the xo are significantly better than gx

  • But I am aware a fool and his money are soon parted and I am easily swayed to spend more.

  • (glances sideways at Wiggle thread)

  • It may well be worth going for it then, I reckon you'll be looking after either chain properly and might get the extra benefit from the better one if it's testing at lasting thatb much longer. For most people the main issue will be either ignoring the chain, washing the shit out of it or smashing lube on dirt on lube, all of which will be better off with a new cheap chain before they have the chance to fuck up the old one too much. If you're giving it a quick and often surface clean and light lube or spending way more time than it's worth fucking about with sonic cleaners and pfte infused wax, then a better chain makes sense so have at it. I've got an XTR/Dura ace chain currently but it was on trade offer less than most cheap ones so why not? Not fucking it up from the extremes of too little or too much misplaced care are probably bigger factors than the actual chain choice as long as it's not actual shit.

  • I tend to wash down the bike after most rides, chain dried and then lubed.

Moving forward I might look to properly put the chain through a chain cleaner a little more often and then blast it dry with electric leaf blower before lubing, just to slightly improve the chain maintenance regime.

  • That sounds like you're erring towards too much IMO but other people love cleaning shit. I'm a brush off dry dirt, wipe a chain with rag with cleaner on it to get the shit off the outside, then dry bit of rag, then get some lube on the rollers and wipe off the excess kinda guy, try to avoid water unless everything is mud and you don't want that mud somewhere else kinda guy. Little and often, emphasis on the little.

  • Tends to be a lot of muddy riding at the moment.

  • A lot of YouTube people use the Pro model iPhones to record their content. I don’t think there’s any advantage to the normal user by even having the Pro over the regular model tbh. If you are looking at the 13 vs the 15 and filming is likely to be its use, it’ll be worth watching a couple of the more recent YouTube videos from DankPods. He’s always used iPhones and found the 15 to be a bit glitchy and less flexible than previous models.

  • Really Useful Storage boxes. Rymans often have a deal on them.

  • they (Really Useful) also sponsored a grassroots womens cycling team, so they get extra points for that. even if their logo was a real pig to put on the jersey design

  • Grabbed some really useful boxes from B&M the other day, they had boxes for miles.

  • Perfect, thanks!

  • Having just seen the "logo" I can understand why... The sponsorship's another good reason to use them though, will get down B&M/Rymans
