Good price on pair of 1200 mk2 here. Dectronix is a wonderful destination.

That is a good deal

I'm just in the process of recommissioning my Armstrong 626

There's a pair of 1200s (a mk2 and a mk5) local to me for a similar amount. If I actually had the money, I'd have a very itchy trigger finger!

First time behind the decks in 10+ years!
Felt good and my wonky mix of funk, soul and weird rock went down surprisingly well with a Saturday night crowd. Managed to sneak some Edgar Broughton and some Hungarian prog in :-)

Nice one. Doing another one ?? Any way to record it ???

This was a one-off Christmas bash thing they’d organised - there was a fun brass band playing after me. Manager wants to chat about a regular slot, though.
I did think about recording it, but couldn’t work out how to without bringing a laptop. I think my wife has one of those zoom audio recorders somewhere, though. Will try and remember for next time.
It was my first time using that mixer properly (vestax pcv 275). Really got on well with it - felt nice to use and everything is laid out well. Apart from the master volume being right next to the cue volume 😁 only got that wrong once, though!

My younger kid has asked for "DJ decks" for Xmas. He's been using his mate's and has got the hang of it quite quickly.
It's digital decks he wants, which I know nothing about. It was SL1210s in my day. So I've found this, am I in the right area?
https://www.johnlewis.com/pioneer-dj-ddj-flx4-2-channel-dj-controller-black/p111281353?
Will these plug straight into a hifi with RCA?
Anything else I should consider?
-
• #335
That’ll plug into line-in, yeah.
The missing part is a laptop or iPad to run the software that that will control. The alternative would be an all-in-one unit, like the Pioneer XDJs, Denon Primes/Numark Mixstream. Pioneer and the associated Rekordbox software is the standard.
Oh and headphones, obviously.
-
• #336
Ah ok, thanks.
He has a Windows laptop. So if he puts Rekordbox on that, it'll work? He bought himself some surprisingly expensive Sony headphones so should be ok on that front, too.

The XDJ stuff seems to be £700+ which is a fair bit more than budget.
-
• #338
Yeah, although I’ve never used a controller like that before - just all-in-ons, and there is a third type of set up which is separate, individual digital decks and a mixer - so have a watch of a couple of YouTube vids on it. Start here - Mojaxx vids are always excellent.

thanks

My Numark mixer is similar, I never learnt my lesson though. It is very painful.

Good value/worth a punt?

Wow. DJ equipment has really gone up in price post-pandemic. That was about £100 new when it came out a few years back, but I see it's ~£140 now.
It's pretty fun. I used it with my phone running djay - when it first came out it had Spotify integration, so you could mix with whatever was on there. Have you got a Tidal sub? They still have that - https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012493060-What-streaming-service-options-are-available-in-djay
Otherwise you could use it with Laptop/Rekordbox, which is probably the best way to go anyway, as you'll be able to export your tunes to USB and play on any Pioneer decks/all-in-ones.

Weird: https://www.musicradar.com/news/pioneer-dj-alphatheta-rebrand
Can’t think why an industry-standard brand would re-brand itself unprovoked. Pioneer used to make other audio equipment, but I can’t see the reward for reclaiming the name for that.
On the look out for what Mojaxx makes of it…

• #344
Wow. Utterly shit logo as well
-
• #345
Looks like the first product is a copy of the Denon Prime Go.

I bought a new Pioneer mixer last week, and when I registered for Rekordbox I got an email from Alphatheta and I thought it was spam initially, the logo, email content etc was rubbish quality.
-
• #347
It’s very difficult to understand why they would do all this.
-
• #348
It's so odd, pioneer is probably the name most synonymous with dj equipment.
But we're all talking about it so maybe there's method on in the madness? Alphatheta is such a wank name though.

East bristol forumists:
Not sure if it will be a regular gig or not yet, but I’m playing some records (mainly 45s) at the All Inn (fishponds) next Thursday (22nd feb) 8-10pm.Funk, funk-adjacent, slightly psychedelic, soul-ish, rock breaks etc
We’ll have to have that long overdue back to back!
Could ask these folks, although unclear if they only do amps…
