Had a look at that, thanks for the recommend... looks like they specialise more in bags though.
So I ordered one of these wide racks, and it's awaiting collection in the post office:
https://microcosm.app/out/hmrRi
the max load on it is 18kg... and the battery (roughly 11 inches cubed) I am going to be carrying on it is 17kg.Then I came across this thing:
https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/m-wave-racky-baseplate/137642077/p?queryID=2e612131074917f151450aa9fc9a0db0&buscador_search
which would sit on top of my existing Tortec (max load 35kg)which do you think would offer better support for the battery??

I’d be inclined to go for the minoura. IME quality brand, and I’d prefer steel over alu (I also like its aesthetic more).
Sure the tortec would also be absolutely fine though

Thanks for the feedback. I've long stopped caring about aesthetics TBH! If it does the job then fugly is fine. Being a parent will do that to you.
I asked a pal who has been on long bike tours (18 months to Japan) who also works as a structural engineer. He gave the thumbs up to the Minoura over the rack plate solution.

Anyone else have any opinions? I value a hive mind take on it.
I have made it very straightforward, so you don't have to click links.I have a 17kg load, a cube approx 11 inches along a side.
Which solution do you think is best, and why?

17kg really isn't that much?
I think you'll be fine with both, I would just see how that cube thing fits on the rack you already have?
That m wave platform thing is wider than the cube, which will be annoying for straps? -

Need a second set of mini panniers for the house hold.
Pretty happy with Ortlieb gravels but they have been ejecting from a new rack that doesn't work as well with the 2 lower clips... probably also some user error.
It has got me looking for extra security for mtb-ing with bags.
Tailfin 10L have (what looks like) a very secure clamp, the " X Clamp".https://www.tailfin.cc/product/pannier-trunk-bags/mini-panniers/mini-panniers/?v=79cba1185463
Anything out there for mtb-ing that I've missed?
The boutique bags that would get me on the radavist are $$$$ and rely on voile straps, secure but hassle. -
• #1286
Similar to the Tailfin Mini Panniers are the Ortlieb Fork Packs
-
• #1287
How are the ortliebs ejecting?
They have that thing going under the rail, should be pretty safe, at least at the top.
But then I have Vaude, so maybe Ortlieb just opens? -
• #1288
Ok, that tailfin lever thing clamp looks more secure.
-
• #1289
How are the ortliebs ejecting?
Hard to tell when riding, quite possibly user error but hasn't happened on other racks for 000's miles. Seeing as I need another set, the Tailfins do look more secure with zero rattle.

Sure this has been covered to death - tubus logo va rack time one vs spa own brand grand tour vs tortec epic?
-
• #1291
Based on any real work experience, has anyone used and have a preference for front loading on the fork between..
Triple mount cages
Low riser, like a Tubus TaraSame size bag, 10l each side.
-
• #1292
I've used both and find the Tara and panniers superior.
Easier to load, take off, access etc. less faff to deal with.
-
• #1293
Thanks, really helpful.
Thinking about it more, can also stick any number of different panniers on the Tara.
This is the way.

Been looking for a bag for my Pelago Commuter (L) for a while. Always lusted after a ILE Porteur but can never quite justify dropping that amount of cash on something I can’t get hands on with first. Just happened across the Pelago Rackbag which looks like it could be ideal - has anyone used one? Would you recommend, or no? Any help much appreciated.

I do! Pretty much everything you could wish for, if you're ok with the fact that it's "water resistant" and not waterproof.
-
• #1297
I have the large Totepack - and quality and function are all right. Just don't expect Mission Workshop-like quality.
And I wouldn't use it in the rain without long mudguards on the front - they are not water proof -

Been relisted a couple of times now.

the new ones are much better, no more velcro.
but would still put a plastic bag inside it when it rains.

The ILE Porteur is fantastic. Mine is 5-6 years old and still going strong. If you work central, you are welcome have a closer look.
No, get a tortec
