Exactly - this is what I’d want a winter bike to look like -

Putting it that far back makes ik looks like a parachute brake

Quite like the white...

Yes, I specced the frame with guard mounts in the rear and have found an extra fork to play around with. The first idea was to bond stainless threaded standoffs and a flat head bolt to the fork. But will try the thru-axle idea first as it's much less work.
Bonding would be done with some "all round" 2k epoxy I still have in the drawer from some other projects.
A friend also suggested the QR trick, (it actually started with just a threaded rod and nuts) but you would need to faff around with spacers to fill in the area around the rod/axle to prevent rattling in the thru axle.

Loving the progress of this! Looks like a good fit.
How are you attaching the guard at the crown?
-
• #283
This looks excellent! Are you going the velcro route for the crown attachment?
-
• #284
@damitamit yeah, waiting on some velcro patches for the underside of the crown... although magnets did pop up in my searches...

• #285
Patches arrived and I bought some chromoplastics and PDW adapters for QR skewers… bit fiddly but the rear is on and wheel spins freely, need to find something more permanent for securing the guard behind the front mech and probably will add a seat tube adapter to pick up where the brake bride location is… fettling the front guard isn’t happening today so I’ve gone with the raceblade as before with Velcro…
Might order some ‘clay’ pink paint for them for the final fitment.

Am thinking about doing this myself with a rear Halo hex skewer. Am worried it will rattle though..
-
• #287
I guess if it's tight it's not going to rattle. Or maybe you need a 3d printed cap that sit's over the lip of the thru axle with a 5mm hole.
-
• #288
@onyerbike - the above is done with QR skewers through the axle with the PDW 'fender' attachments acting as covers over the thru axle ends. Once 'tightened' they aren't rattling... but haven't used them extensively yet - will report back

Has anyone on here tried 650b on an Aethos? (Yeah I know I could have got a crux)
-
• #290
I'm afraid you won't get much more clearance, since the frame and fork are not wide enough where the smaller diameter tire would end up. You could get away with a 35, 38 maybe? And then your pedals would hit the ground every other turn

How do you like the Aethos? Contemplating pushing the boat out on cycle scheme.

the rim brake king falls

Missed this! Yeah great frame - will be a great bike eventually once I’ve found better wheels and tweaked a few bits…
-
• #295
What tyres do you have on it?
-
• #296
Nice! Which version? Tyres were 28c turbo cottons but now switched to 27c open pave because of the mudguards - I’d think 30c would be no problem at all - I don’t know about 32c 🤷♂️

Expert with Ultegra di2
I rather ride my winter bike than have that ugly thing on my bike lol.
