thanks man, that was my plan i think. And I picked these up second hand and the sole was already pretty smooth. I think I'll try a like for like replacement and see how long it actually remains functionally grippy. If not long enough to justify the expense I'll have to look at alternatives, although I'll get the shops input first too.

fwiw I have found the white wedge vibram soles can be slippy once pretty worn
