I've never tested back to back with a normal post but I think that on the road it makes a slight difference with vibration but it doesn't do anything for actual bumps. I think because it only flexes forward and backward and for absorbing anything noticeable, you'd want up and down right.
sounds about right. a mate has just bought a telescopic style one for his gravgrav bike for when we do the dirty reiver. i think i'll probably just get out of the saddle for a bit and save myself £100
