I'm kind of the opposite. I have issues with tendons so often tend to run Zero/low-cut socks. I guess I'm not really doing massive multi-day events in winter though so I could probably get away with longer socks but finding a pair that would fit around my calves and not resemble hessian sacks could be an issue.
For what it is worth….
I stopped using cycling socks in winter and now use bog standard thermal socks off Amazon etc. cycling socks seem to be very thin on top surface but thermal ones beefier ( warmer) but main reason is I can get full calf length warm socks almost up to my knees- under longs of course. Warm calves seem to help keep feet warm for me. Have been known to use with shorts and sandals though to be annoying to cycling illuminati
