• Fantastic updates and great progress! Love the pictures of the ruta de las lagunas!

The way those "1000km" were dismissed really speaks about the pain, well done powering through. Hopefully Patagonia will make that all worthwhile! Is the plan to go to Villa O'Higgins and then through the lake? Check the timings for when you expect to be there as I think the off season ferry only runs once a week.

This is a nice place to stay for a night in Villa Amengual

  • The Ruta 40 from Cafayate down to Las Lajas was a real slog, we got a bus from San Juan to Mendoza and hitched 120km into Las Lajas. Maybe we should have hitched more… It was some pretty tedious riding with headwinds and very little water (we raided shrines quite a few times, as people leave water bottles as offerings).

Very glad to be in Patagonia and having fun again. Peru and Bolivia were mind blowing but also fucking hard. Being less remote, not at crazy high altitude and surrounded by trees and rivers is really what we needed.

Thanks for the heads up about the Villa O’Higgins ferry, that’s the route we’re taking. Some friends got it last week and only had to wait a day. We’ll be there in 3 weeks so if the weather is good there should be no problems. We’ve heard of people travelling north bound who had to wait 2 weeks due to storms, the local farmer slaughtered a cow to feed the waiting cyclists as there’s fuck all on that end of the lake.

Will definitely check out the refugio, thanks!
