  • I’ve not been asked to do a self assessment this year. Previously I had so assumed I’d just missed reminders.
    Ran through it and it calculated I owe ~£900, which it’d want paying today.

    If I choose not to submit the (voluntary) self assessment then presumably they’ll just adjust my tax code next year rather than me not having to pay the £900 at all…?

    They can definitely take £900 through changing your code, but it depends on their knowing about all the income which gives rise to the £900 liability. The only income they really know about without your filing a return is PAYE employment income.
