IfWhen ai takes over and destroys humanity why would it stop there, surely God would be next on the ‘assimilate and destroy’ list.

Yeah. If I were AI I’d be all red LEDs when I found out that humans weren’t in charge after all.

There’s a fair amount of evidence indicating that god, contrary to prevailing belief, is not perfect.
It’s also possible that god is tired of existing but is unable to uncreate itself. Perhaps it thinks a transcendent AI could do it.

God’s busy enough as is, and when she gets a few minutes to check out Earth she’s bombarded with simian drivel like ‘Let the Chiefs win the super bowl’ or ‘Please save me from the foreseeable consequences of my own actions’.
In their shoes I’d just delete the whole thing. Even with unlimited cosmic energy and info bandwidth, it’s the same tired scripts rehashed every few milenia with new actors and wardrobes and an occasional minor creative twist.
