I've had the light for years (thou the old version which was called the 'alpha jersey' and it actually seems to have better cuffs and fit than this new version). It's very versatile with as you say different base layers and even a gilet on top. Another jacket that has a similar use case (windrpoof front, breatheable rear) but very slightly warmer is the Sportful Fiandre Medium.
I bought the Alpha Ros 2 standard last week (when wiggle had it for £108). The windstopper material is thicker, the fit is baggier and the inner 'alpha vest' is gridded fleece and comes all the way down the arms. Much warmer and definitely a below 5 degrees jacket.
Just to confuse things the latest versions of these jackets are called the Alpha Flight and Alpha Doppio respectively and actually use Polatec Alpha for the inner vest.
Cheers for this! Yeah I got pretty confused searching the Castelli website for the Alpha ROS/Light. Funnily enough I was looking at the Fiandre 'pro' medium on saddle back @£80. Getting myself into a right rabbit hole here 😂
