They are really loud, to the point where if I’d known I’d probably choose something else. Filled the pawls with grease and it didn’t make a difference.
Picked up some of dem cheap 650b hoops off wiggle though, they have the mud tyres and freehub is silent so it’s not jarring in a quiet wood. Loud wheels are for the road now.

Thx

Agreed. VERY loud. Sometimes it really annoys me when riding my set

Re: the sigma wheels - specs looks like the rims could be Kinlin TL-23s

Another helmet deal if any MTB'ers after a new lid:
Ordered one of these at the weekend after Amazon sent me a non-MiPS version of those Giro Fixture that were going cheap. This one looks like a better lid anyway, and is even cheaper than the Giro...

Was looking at these, and the standard version. Anyone got any real world advice on which one to go for? Was personally thinking the light, then vary base layers. Sound about right?
-
• #6912
Yeah from what I've read the regular version is only really for seriously cold weather, it's super warm. The light with a combination of different baselayers seems like the better and more useful option

I've had the light for years (thou the old version which was called the 'alpha jersey' and it actually seems to have better cuffs and fit than this new version). It's very versatile with as you say different base layers and even a gilet on top. Another jacket that has a similar use case (windrpoof front, breatheable rear) but very slightly warmer is the Sportful Fiandre Medium.
I bought the Alpha Ros 2 standard last week (when wiggle had it for £108). The windstopper material is thicker, the fit is baggier and the inner 'alpha vest' is gridded fleece and comes all the way down the arms. Much warmer and definitely a below 5 degrees jacket.
Just to confuse things the latest versions of these jackets are called the Alpha Flight and Alpha Doppio respectively and actually use Polatec Alpha for the inner vest.

I’ve got the regular Alpha and it’s great but is pretty heavy-duty. I tried the light but it was when they were making it with a wonky zip (weird design) and I just couldn’t do it. Would be a great single item for lots of conditions though, go for it!

Cheers for this! Yeah I got pretty confused searching the Castelli website for the Alpha ROS/Light. Funnily enough I was looking at the Fiandre 'pro' medium on saddle back @£80. Getting myself into a right rabbit hole here 😂

Sorry that's the one I meant. Fiandre Pro Medium

Took a punt on a 3XL Castelli Unlimited Perfetto Ros 2 Jacket.
Maybe im an odd shape at 44in chest and 34 waist because the size chart suggests I should have a 40inch waist. We'll see how it fits when it arrives but im expecting a sack of spuds.
