Nah, can run 105 with 11-40 without roadlink, best to test to make sure the derailleur hanger of said bike allow this.
thanks Ed. I've got a 5800 rear mech currently though. looks like that's a 7000 mech in the photo? maybe I'll upgrade to r7000, or would it be better to go for a grx or xt mech with an 11-40 cassette?
GRX means a clutch if that's useful, XT won't be compatible.
If you can, get a GRX derailleur, or long cage 105 R7000.
I can’t comment on 5800 as haven’t made upgrades on those for quite some time, the R7000/GRX design allow you to get away with it.
I've an ultegra RX rd, the precursor to grx, I ran a 42 cassette with sitting in the spares box. Could do a deal?
