Watched Society of the Snow, Spanish language film recounting the Uruguayan 1972 Andes flight disaster. Is distressing but really good imho

They're virtually the same film IMO. I didn't think Society of the Snow added much to the story that wasn't already covered by Alive.

The plane crash in Alive way more realistic/terrifying to me!

Watched Leave the World Behind yesterday evening. During the scene where it get's a bit scary and the exact moment Julia R goes "What the f.." everything went black, as half the city had a power outage. That was kinda freaky. A great addition to an ok film.

Went to The Garden Cinema in Holborn last night to watch Psychomania - as part of the Video Bazaar film club.

Pretty wild (and fun) movie - must've been a direct influence to Garth Marenghi. Particularly AWESOME soundtrack. Cinema well worth a visit. Good prices for tickets and drinks.

I've been meaning to check that cinema out for ages! Will keep a closer eye out for interesting stuff.

I watched Skinamarink last night. It's got pretty mixed reviews from what I can tell but I thought it was great.
Original, slow, unsettling and unpleasant. I reckon I'll be thinking about it for a while.

Psychomania! I remember this as the town centre mayhem scenes were filmed in my hometown, Walton-on-Thames. It's been redeveloped since then, though.

Also saw that One Love had its premier in Kingston the other night so felt inspired to watch Marley again, so good. I have a bad feeling about One Love.

I got mrs-ru a lifetime membership from there when it opened. Bargain for £20. I've not been yet, but it's round the corner from her office so she goes quite a lot. Sounds lovely.

Was a great success, lots of people there, and a good film artfully introduced by Digger. Enjoyable! Next month’s film (on 35mm!) is a groundbreaking 60s film called The Leather Boys, about rocker/biker culture in London, and unusually for the time (ie before legality) a gay theme in the story. Can’t wait. Would love to see some forum faces next time. Spotted a nice white fixy outside the venue last night.

All self-respecting Smiths fans know about The Leather Boys. Either on film or in real life.

Monster, by Hirokazu Kore-eda. Stirred me quite a bit, but beautifully written.

I watched All Quiet on the Western Front on Saturday. Hard going. Brutal and extremely gory.

Couldn’t help but feel like I’ve seen all the same sorts of tropes in other films though

Might be true but I feel they all owe legacy to Remarque's story. I have a bit of the same feeling with Dune vs Star Wars, although I admit I never really got into the latter. AQotWF next to being one of the OG war novels I think is really well executed though as a film, imo up there with the best of war dramas. I'll never forget that haunting soundtrack.

Tried Bottoms on Saturday night, some smart enough satire but i didn't laugh until the last third (almost worth sticking out for the ending). Reading up about it after some people have clearly taken to it but for me it just didn't land. Me mumbling Mean girls, Heathers and Superbad throughout didn't help my girlfriends enjoyment but did cement my household chin stroking twat status when i found all three referenced in an online smarty pants review.

Tried Vast of Night again which proved to be a great Sunday afternoon curtains pulled farewell to my free Amazon trial.
