Maybe.
Though outside of clothing, less obviously so in adulthood? My wife is not very materialistic, but she has a compulsion to aim for 100% completion on games, puzzle books etc. Her family wasn’t much for collecting.
On the other hand, my mum collected thimbles, nice porcelain, tourist spoons.
I am very much a collector.
A big generalisation, but boys like collecting stuff.
Football stickers, stamps, coins, trading cards, watches, memorabilia, Warhammer, knives, guns, books, cameras, lenses, books, consoles, pens, trainers, tools among many other things.
There is no logical reason why I should own 10 swiss army knives, but I do.
Not to say that girls/women don't also, but largely the collectible item market is seems geared towards men.
Regarding the sexy killing tool comment, I wonder how many 'meat is murder' vegans are Japanese carbon steel, or hunting knife/EDC knife collectors. Of course, vegans are allowed nice things too, I get that a sashimi yanagiba knife might not be 'knife pron' if you're that way inclined.
