Ta, @Greenbank & @aggi too... thanks all of you. There's a proper psu I can get, plus as it runs off the AA's I'm using some of those for now.

Not dealt with a 4 track recorder but with record decks it can be hit and miss. But even then the issue is the wrong speed.
Audio is a whole load of magic, apart from amps as they aren't that fussy. Sorry if I'm coming across as a niegh sayer. But with audio stuff there is lots of smoke to release ;)
