Same, I rocked up to Games Workshop with some very shoddy space marines as a teen. Those are great

Thank you, all of you. He's been very patient doing them and has taken loads of inspiration from various YouTubers. He's very pleased with them, but there are still over 40 more to do, including the big ones.

That's sick. These kind of one coat solutions are so good for new and young painters (also me I use them a shit tonne).
Props to little hiraethus.

Thanks!
Totally agree about the contrast/speedpaints - and they work really well on the Tyranids too because there's loads of texture to develop light and shade, and they're not so detailed that you need lots of different colours.

My eldest has painted himself into a corner though. He's painting Flesh Tearer space marines, with lots of black armour and fiddly detail. I need to help him come up with an easier way to paint the armour so he can progress quicker, otherwise he loses interest.

Not sure on current method but a using a red rattlecan to prime could work? Then you can do the black details with a black contrast paint, then do metallics on a couple of details, potentially all over thin wash, and just ignore any other details? Could do an all over drybrush of a brighter red post rattlecan, pre contrast too.
Ignoring details is a great way to paint faster and works well on things like marines that are broadly one colour anyway. Tabletop minions has a video about this on YT somewhere but I can't find it right now.

Doing black over red is easier than doing red over black. However if the weapons/details are silver then you want a black layer on them too. I'd just do a black prime, red details, dry brush silver on the weapons, highlight however you want. Doing red over black is a good lesson for thinning paints and doing 2 thin coats, the first coat will look streaky, that's fine because you'll do another when it's dry and suddently it'll look smooth. Just got to avoid the temptation of doing a thick first coat.

I'm going to trial three methods for priming and shading the armour this weekend with him: white prime, black prime with white zenithal and black prime with grey/white dry brush - all followed by black contrast paint.
I think the zenithal will be best, as I can do the spraying for him then he can focus on the details
He likes the weapons and details silver, so they're easy enough to do after the speedpaint.
Edit: actually might be better to do all the base coats for the red armour and silver weapons before the contrast paint, then there's less risk of the paint reactivating.

Wicked. I’ve finally finished my Lizardman team Nottingham Rainforest just in time for my first ever league on Friday. Already had an idea how to paint my next team.

Those are looking cool. Good luck for your league game! Next on my painting table is BB snotlings and then BB lizards.
What's your next team going to be?

Cheers. Norse, and I’ve been given a third party Halfling team that are all leprechauns. Hopefully these won’t take three years to finish this time! Already have a plan for the Norse team.

Nice! I fancy trying Norse at some point, partly cause I love the greebo games norse/amazon hybrid models.
Flings will be a fun difference too. I've not played much stunty before but it seems like a fun aspect to the game.

So a 2 day Age of Sigmar tournament is pretty tiring. Found it surprisingly fun considering how casual of an AoS player I am, and the venue of warhammer world is great. Food + drink in bugmans bar is ace and all colocated with the gaming area, and event provided lunch was good on both days.
We ended up with 2wins 3losses over the two days, but the tournament rankings take into account being picked for favourite game and favourite army from your opponents for overall standings, so with 2 favourite game votes and 4 favourite army votes we ended up 30 of 78.
