  • +1 for Ilkley, I've had three pairs done by then now, turnaround with postage is really quick too.

  • Okay cheers - i'll take mine in and see what the cobbler can do, I was hoping to get a like for like red wing sole. Looking at the label in mine, they seem to say 07/10 which may suggest i've had these since 2010 eekk.

  • Vibram cristy wedge looks pretty much the same as the original redwings sole.

  • Om the subject of Vibram resoling: If your local cobbler don't carry Vibram soles how do you obtain them?
I'm considering having the same sole as on Danner Mountain Light put on a pair of heavy vintage boots.

  • i just showed the sole i wanted on my phone and he ordered it in to do the re-sole.

  • I got mine from eBay before my cobbler told me he could get them cheaper.

  • If your local cobbler don't carry Vibram soles how do you obtain them?

Mine showed the full catalogue to the choices.

  • Cheers all. Should just get off my arse, really, instead wasting time online.

  • Someone was evidently selling some of their other half’s gear they don’t wear and put these ‘leather boots’ in my size on marketplace nearby for a tenner. Worn once apparently, rocked them today for the first time very comfy.

  • Wow, score!

  • Knew they were iron rangers but noticed they have Indian motorcycle branding so looks like they’re these

  • Wow those are great, what a bargain. I have my eyes on some black iron rangers, but the £300-£330 price tag is quite hard to stomach even though I know they'll last for ever.

  • I'd love to be a fly on the wall, when the hey have you seen my brown leather boots I can't find them anywhere conversation happens

  • worse when it's "I saw that chap wearing my £10 boots today"

  • Ha that’s the only way it could’ve been any better, I’d love a black pair, made worse by the fact that I recently started watching Loudermilk and I noticed Ron Livingston wearing what I think are some black iron rangers sometimes.

  • My ALDO redwing knockoffs are coming apart. Already had them resoled once which cost the same as the original purchase price. Love the fit, especially the lining. I have slim but long feet, anytime I’ve tried on unlined Redwings or DMs etc there’s just no way I’d get on with them.

These are worn with thick merino socks in winter to commute and a bit of site work, and the weekend, pretty much all winter tbh.

Where should I be looking for replacements? Ordered some mock toe Danners as they were cheap and there’s free returns so why not. I don’t mind spending a chunk as I appreciate well made things and they’ll get worn so much. Waterproof would be nice, but far from necessary.

  • I was looking at the LL bean Cresta goretex boots before. Haven’t pulled trigger on them but was a toss up between those Danners and the Paraboots. LL bean used to offer lifetime guarantee until like 5 years ago. I have a the bean boots and they’ve stood up well.

  • Obvs not a moctoe if that’s a critical element

  • Think Danner boots fits pretty narrow. But £££

  • Think I tried on some Danner Mountain Light or Pass last year and they fit pretty well. The ones I’ve got on order are unlined but we’ll see. Probably pop into town on the weekend and see what’s about.

  • Danners are nice. They are narrow though. I guess they’ll loosen up a bit over time.

One year warranty though? “we stand behind or boots” - but only for one year? Seems a bit shit

  • I had two pairs of Danners over the years. The sole wore down long before any other part of the boot failed.

  • Different vibe but Ive had my fracaps forever.

  • Oooh, you may be able to help me with a couple of questions I've been wanting to ask. I have a paid of M120s but the soles are so fucking shit I can't wear them if it might think about raining because I slip all over the place which is a really weird sight when anyone who glances at my feet will see walking boots and think I'm a loon. As far as I know, the soles are Vibram - is this just what happens with vibram soles and will a replacement sort that out?

Secondly, any recommendations for leather treatment to look after them properly?

    Cheers

  • Isn't this just your poor balance and coordination? A bad workman blames his soles.
