Porch idea

Nearly pulled the trigger on a Teckentrup side hinged garage door but found out the guys company is in liquidation. Close call I think 🤔

I like this! I’ve had a play to encase the concrete base with a black I beam, run it to the garage door and over the top. Plant the trough with sedums to replicate the porch? Have you thought about side opening garage doors, but with a 1/3-2/3 split to copy the windows? You could also inset the opening by 300mm or so to loose the flatness of the front and again replicate the porch, but in relief.
I like playing with your design, because I can’t come up with anything for a storm porch for our place.

Interesting! I had a local steel work / welder chap come around to come up with a design / quote for the porch today. He mentioned a black border on the concrete slab too…
Teckentrup 50/50 side hinged door ordered in this colour to hopefully complement the orange front door;
RAL 1019
Took your advice re: colour 👍 / got rid of the windows though as they were eye level and saved ourselves £450

Nice.
Looking at it right now I am not sure if I would go for as much porch design as you are planning. It's a nice plan, don't get me wrong, and sedum will look great.
But for me the contrast between simple doors and random stones is so good I'd be hesitant to obstruct it. And the rocks just naturally flowing in from the left is also good. -

Looks fab!

I think you could be right.

Thanks, I just plonked them there temporarily as we have so many of them. Was thinking of having a nice simple bench(full sun south facing) to the left of the front door as you look at it. Will then stack up the stones properly- infill and thinking of Mediterranean planting / gravel , grasses etc.
Porch may end up just being a rain canopy to be honest .
Props to @Chaley for the garage door colour inspiration -

Benches are always good, and in front you might even end up chatting with neighbours.
I really don't want to tell you what to do, but as someone who will probably never own a house (Berlin, houses are possible, but not in areas partner would move too...) I love to pretend it's me deciding.
Simple rain canopy makes sense.
Those stones with stuff growing between will be great.
Looking forward to the pictures of cleaned up brickwork, exciting stuff! -

Good advice 👍
Luckily we have great neighbours all sides so chat from time to time already but a bench would be lovely for a sunny snooze.
What ideas for this area then?
Just clearing it if old roots etc - I have some ideas but would be good to see what you come up with! (South facing front of house again)

Also the area from the garage door, under the olive tree to where the bench will go will be laid with these real terrazzo tiles I picked up for a bargain £50 (90 of them)

Nice, eBay or somewhere else?

Yep eBay, drove to Stroud to pick them up and nearly bottomed out the suspension due to the weight!

Just finished this from old roof rafters, just the cost of some screws.
Need to decide what to plant 🤔

Thanks- it’s a bit rough round the edges but is very robust.
Yeah that’s really good
