Tyre Seating Tool. Not fussed on brand. Suitable price paid.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks :-)

I have a pair of wheels where the tyres won't seat properly and no amount of thumb massaging is working. I just thought a seating tool might help.

  • You mean the bead hasn't gone over the rim or that it won't seat properly, ie. the tyre is lumpy or wonky on the rim?

  • It won't seat properly. I've tried 3 different pairs of tyres, different rim tapes and numerous different inner tubes. I've tried the soapy water trick but that doesn't work either.

Both tyres have low points and are lumpy which I just can't seem to massage out. The wheels are brand new.

Never happened before in my 40 years in the sport. I'm out of options.

  • Unsolicited advice alert: I've found Lezyne Power levers to be much better than a tyre seating tool for stubborn tyres! Cheaper too.

  • What tyres and what rims?

Try getting the tyre warm with a hairdryer, being a bit softer might help. Leaving them at max pressure overnight usually does the trick

  • And hanging the wheel up so it's not resting on the floor

  • Saturae Pista rims with pretty standard Vittoria Corsa Graphene 700x25s.

Thanks for the advice. Will give it a try.

  • Hand sanitiser gel . It doesn't leave a stain and wack em up to bursting point . Maybe wearing ear defenders.

  • Is the ETRTO code the same for the tyre and rim? most bikes generally have 700c, 650b or 26in wheel sizes....with 700c/622 being the most popular for road bikes.

  • cushcore have some great tools for helping seat tyres when there are inserts which can be an utter nightmare. you might find they are also helpful when seating normal tyres too

  • All,

A huge thanks for your tips on this problem.

Pumping the tyres up to 140psi with the help of some hand sanitiser has done the trick but (and perhaps to ask a stupid question), does this mean I have to ride on 140psi to keep the tyres true? Do I have to go through this malarkey every time, for example, if I puncture?

    Many thanks again.

  • If they now sit on the rim leave them over night and back to you normal pressure . If they then buckle again the tyres may be twisted goosed knackered however don't lose sleep over it.

  • Kool stop one appears to popular.
    SJS got them
