How warm does this thing get? Keep it in a domestic rack in a cupboard warm with switches and router warm, or keep in in an industrial rack with halon fire suppression system warm?

Is that mobo happy running a 4k screen without a GPU?

Haven't switched it on yet. It's going on an open desk, so not concerned. The case is rated for up to 95W TDP CPU, so it should be cool with my set up

Rated to drive 5k@120Hz or 8k@60Hz via DP. I don't play games, so the on board graphics should be easily capable of dealing with my requirements.

Oh nice. On board graphics have come on a long way.

I got a k8 pro but upgraded soon after to a k10 for full numpad on my dev machine. the k8 now lives on my 2nd machine under the stairs and they're both pretty nice. the website seemed ok to order from too (though they have a lot of their stock on amazon but check for marked up prices against the website).

I have an MX Mech Mini - very happy with it.

no need to change your mind
Changed my mind 🙂 Still mechanical, but powered by common replaceable primary cells not proprietary rechargeable, funky, and with Cyrillic

Good lord, that looks like a toy.
Are you sure?

Are you sure?
Yes, for the reason you give as well as the reasons I gave 😊 I don't spent much time typing, and it's got to be better that this £5 Amazon job in front of me now, even if it's not to the taste of hardcore key bashers.

Fair enough, I hope you like it. It's certainly jolly!
I hardly ever use a pointing device of any description to operate my PC, so with my fingers permanently on the keyboard it's something I pay close attention to.
But yes, anything sounds like a step up from your current board.

I took your advice on this, btw. Thanks.

I assume the two Digital Audio options are my fancy pants motherboard audio.
But why the Intel Display audio? Is that for plugging speakers into the monitor or something?
Basically I want to simplify this list, because it pushes my actual speakers off the page and confuses me on the rare occasions I've turned them off

HDMI cable audio I'd guess.
-
• #9341
Ah, yes, that would make sense. I forgot I'd actually used HDMI for this.
I presume I can disable it/them in Device Man to get rid of them from the list?
-
• #9342
Shouldn't need device manager. Sound properties has a 'Don't allow' button which should do the trick. I also use it to remove displays from the list.

You can disable from the sounds menu too - right the speaker icon in the taskbar > Sounds.
If you regularly switch to and from headphones/speakers I'd highly recommend Soundswitch https://soundswitch.aaflalo.me/
I've got it hotkey'd to CTRL+ALT+ENTER for speakers and CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE for microphones.

Thanks all. Looks like that will do what I want.
Yep. Perfect.
That's my "you learn something every day" so now I can go to bed yeah?

Windows 11 laptop, fully updated.
How can I prevent the 'Windows Malware Executable' running during office hours,
leaving the laptop randomly unresponsive for 5-10 seconds at a time?
WME has, frustratingly, been running for about 90 minutes this morning. -

Perhaps you could guide W11 sceptics towards an easy to follow 'Linux for Beginners'?
None. Might have been nice to have Thunderbolt for future proofing, but the Z790 PG-ITX/TB4 has a little fan for the VRMs (which probably would never have moved with the T processor and no power hungry graphics card, but still)
