Perfect.

Bear in mind that you can't remove the rear DS bearing without removing the ratchet ring.

Just after doing the front wheel for now. I've seen the ratchet removal tool for cheapo on ebay, so when the time comes I'll give that a go.

I'd like to use my fixed carbon wheelset all year round but the rim brake performance isn't good enough in the wet whilst i'm injured and unable to put much stopping power through my legs. Thoughts on lacing a disc hub onto a 20h carbon rim brake rim for a road fixed setup?
I'd most likely be using a 160mm rotor with a cable actuated caliper, I'm about 75kg. Is 20h enough to handle 80% ish of the braking?
I found this hub but would prefer centre lock if it exists in 20h QR?

i do this on my eastway, disc fork with a 160mm rotor and a trp spyre caliper on drop bars.
I am a bit lower than 70kg but in town it is totally enough braking for 99% of inclines.i was looking at this just now

( edit : you said 20h ) -

It's the low spoke count i'm worried about rather the stopping performance. My experience of Spyre's is they're no better than rim calipers in the dry but they maintain that performance in the wet which is good enough for me.
Looks like your Eastway is 28h? https://www.lfgss.com/comments/17117962/

it is 28h yes, goldtec hub. I thought you were talking 24h. I am looking at building a 24h carbon rim one in the near future though, for occasionnal duties.
My feedback is similar with spyres, braking is similar to caliper on an alloy rim. the setup needs regular servicing to keep cable travel tight but it works okay, and is consistent in the rain.My gut feeling is that it would depend on the quality of the wheel build and components with 20 holes, totally doable but possibly a bit more stressful.

If it's fine with 20 spokes and you can initiate a skid with your legs only, then it should be okay handling the brake force of a disk brake.
The problem I think will be finding a rear hub that has 20 holes.

I was going to offer advice, but since you said that it's clear that you're immune to common sense🙂

You will be absolutely fine on 20h disc hub with the carbon rim.
I have a 20h hunt hub here you can have for cheaps. Just need to get qr end caps.

You can get it close to perfect if you're careful enough (although you will feel anything that's less than perfect through the brake), but the trick with these rim dings is that because of the bead hook, the adjustable spanner really only works in one direction - so you have to sneak up on it. One you go too far, you're in trouble.

Sounds good, i'll be in touch!

Knipex pliers wrench to the rescue. Lots more control, better grip.

• #11715
For that particular rim dent, you might even get away with just angling the Knipex jaws and using the straight rim as a guide, just squeeze the jaws closed to 'flatten' it back inline

Located in the EU so not ideal and do like a wheelbuild now and then.
Thanks for the offer though!Wheels will go on a 26" commuter, so anything cheap and durable for the rear and dynamo for the front.
And thanks everyone who chimed in with other options, now off trying to find a EU shop where I can get them...

Any of you lovely North London fellas, up for building me two wheelsets (all parts provided)? Or alternatively any recommendations for wheel builders in the area?

Struggling to find an all silver equivalent to Kinlin XR31... in rim brake.
Borg 22 and Pacenti Forza classico are shallower options and would probably be fine. Really, I want something like DCR Flirt in 30mm but can't see these available outside full wheel builds. Any alternatives in that depth?
Edit: After a bit more looking, HPS Archetype is 25mm, Halo Devaura is 31mm and Hunt Sprint Aero are 31mm (though it feels little wrong building up some Hunt rims). Just in case anyone else is looking.

Halo Devaura is 31mm and Hunt Sprint aero
Think these are both rebranded Kinlin XR31
-
• #11721
Hunt are Kinlin no? Also Borg. May sell you the rim if you call them? Think they sell rims from bitexhubs.co.uk
-
• #11722
Those Hunts and Borgs are both kinlin, a lot of halo too, anything in that profile likely is and anything that mentions T10 treatment or niobium alloys. I can ask the a UK distributor if they've got stock in silver rim brake later if you can't find any from those guys, how many holes?
-
• #11723
I got some 30mm DCR's in silver. What drilling you after?
-
• #11724
Urgh, this place is great. Thanks all - of course, makes sense that they are all kinlin rebrands.
Indecisive mate has now decided he wants black anyway (despite my trying to convince otherwise) so we have gone for plane jane xr31s in black.

Hey, I'm looking for some rims to build a new set of disc road wheels. The hubs I have are 24h.
I'm looking for a box section rim similar to a TB14 anodised (which I don't think they make in 24h). The wheels are for disc but I don't mind using rim brake rims. I'm going for a retro sort of look so very shallow rims, but the braking surface must match the rim - so not a silver braking surface and black rim. And I'm not wanting a 100% silver rim, anodised grey/black or ceramic would be perfect.
Anyone know of anything that sort of matches?
