FWIW we didn't have cushions for ages and it was fine, then bought one of Etsy that isn't quite the right size and my wife hates.
Another example of built in seating.

Thanks for thoughts on banquette seating. Will need to think carefully about fabric/cushions. Potential for them to get wrecked by kids dropping food etc.
