That wasn't meant to be a knock on Caol Ila btw, it's a lovely malt, but the fact that it's mostly used in diageo's blends means there's not tons of variety coming directly from the distillery. The good news is that it's one of the rare few islay malts that's offered out to lots of independent bottlers so there's lots of interesting bottles to discover.
Happy new year, just finishing this one off.

Right back at you all!
A few hours to go for me, it’ll be Lagavulin with a Port Charlotte chaser later on. -

Had this last night as the Christmas Whisky I bring over when visiting the in laws. One of the nicest I’ve ever had, blend of casks from 6 decades!

The Arran 10yr was nice, thanks for the recommendation.

It’s really kind of you, but I think it would be very inconvenient to arrange this. But thank you.

I have this tradition now that I uncork a new bottle of Lagavulin for Christmas every year. Every year it is a different bottle and this year it’s Distillers Edition 2018. It’s a quiet tasty dram, but lacks flavour intensity, feels watered down and ends up being pretty disappointing.

Oh boy. On the bright side, you’ll now have to drink the whole thing tonight.

I can still get in and get it out. (hooo hoo)
I think it's fine. Lots of stuff about "this is where you use one of the old corks from previous bottles slain". er. OK! -

Green Spot is in my top 3, love the smell of apples. Plus prices haven't gone silly.
I prefer it to the Yellow and Red Spot too.

Yup, Green Spot is the business.

I’ve mostly been enjoying Powers single pot 12yr recently. It’s a little sweet like readbreast but I’ll forgive it.

Just finished off a bottle of 20 year-old Talisker that I bought from the distillery 15 years ago.
Outstanding with some homemade fruit cake.

Wow. Dread to think what that would cost now. Do they do a 20yo now? 18yo is £160. What a way to nuke your fan base.
Finished the Ardebeg 10 and need to replace it. Askaigb8 filling in, but definitely not quite as good.

I dread to think! But £2,400 on eBay apparently. I don't think I paid more than £100 for it

Lovely, independent bottlings of caol ila are usually (imho) much more interesting than their own standard bottlings.
