You could check out the Source Direct album Exorcise the Demons (Hokusai is a Source Direct alias). It’s all very sinister, dark and hard.

By this point they seemed to have completely abandoned the chilled jazz infusion that was so masterful in some of their tracks.

This is a great one among the Hokusai stuff. A great example of one side being the harder/sinister and the flip being softer/deeper.
