You don't need a Facebook account, just a Meta one. The only thing they can track, if that's what they want to do (and, well, it's Meta, so probably), is what you get up to with the headset.
Your Surface Pro is not good enough for PCVR, though, no matter what the model. But there's been an increasing number of AAA games made fot Quest standalone.. For example, a couple of Walking Dead games (highly praised) and even an Assassin's Creed game (Meta threw $$$ at Ubisoft to get a big name game in time for the Quest 3's launch). The Red Matter games have been ported to Quest and they're very good.

SuperHot is still the best thing to pick up for the Quest IMO. Relatively lightweight on the rendering side but still very immersive. Rez is also damn amazing, it was a game I missed out on back in its PS1/Dreamcast days, but man it feels like that game was made for VR!

Mine's about to land in Oz, looking forward to getting my mitts on it. I've got a folder full of ROMs somewhere, will have to dig that out. Handheld SNES Parodius here I come!

I have the Pico 4 which is similar to the Quest in regards to PCVR that you have to stream to it because they don't have a proper display port. Even if you go through USB-C it is a network connection that streams compressed video instead of using it as a uncompressed display port.
I am streaming it wirelessly because I couldn't see a big difference and the USB-C network tends to be unstable.
My PC has a RTX 3070 and it's just about usable with a lot of tweaking and using OpenXR instead
of OpenVR. PCVR is a lot of faff to setup and dial in so it look good and runs stable.
Also make sure you don't suffer from motion sickness, that can spoil all the fun. -

One of the reasons I bought it. Rez easily one of my favourite gaming experiences back at uni. Sadly the headset gave me motion sickness (especially in Rez lol). I’ve heard if you wear it a bit and eventually it’ll reduce, but I hardly ever wore it. Plus I don’t have a PC, so never got the best of it.

On RDR2 The ride back to Shady Belle after returning from Guarma whilst this played in the background was pretty special. Sure in cinematic mode it was really just a cutscene but I found it pretty nice.

That's said a lot in the VR community, but I'm not sure how widely true it is. People are built differently, evidenced by the wide range of accessibility features VR devs have come up with to address it. The thing is, most of those options work by making it feel less like you're having the experience VR is supposed to be about. Ubisoft have done some innovative things to make Assassin's Creed gameplay work in VR, with a host of optional tweaks for motion sickness sufferers, but all those accessibility options come down to reminding you that you're not actually diving off the top of a cathedral into a haystack or running along the edge of a roof.

Would appreciate the thread’s advice on which Quest 3 games to get a 96y/o grandmother. She’s not a gamer, and doesn’t like war.
I’ve noted Rez Infinite, which looks mind boggling but probably too daunting beyond a minute of immersion. There’s a diving video experience that looks fantastic, and things along those lines will probably be the business (I.e., physical places or experiences that a nonagenarian likely won’t be able to do anymore).

Finally got round to Frostpunk. Everyone either froze or starved to death and I'm left feeling quite depressed.
I should stick to games where the aim is to kill people.

The frostpunk experience.
If it makes you feel any better its mostly when not if.

Use the remote heating hub things (cant remember the exact name) but they are the only way to win i found. You can save energy too by just toggling them off when you close facilities/warm (er) weather / are using automatons

And now I and my GF (who normally has little interest in games) are totally hooked, played for 10 hrs this weekend.

This pigeon has done more for me than the Bible ever did
The review is certainly addictive. Have you worked out what's happening in the game after 10 hours?

Turns out there's yet another way to play those old ROMs.

Shredders Revenge is on sale and I'm not sure I can resist....
-
• #29068
yeah, but then i watched some tips videos and relised that i basically have barely scrapped the surface of the game. I wont spoil it but it seems there are a load of extra mechanics you only get after you unlock certian things

Decided Frostpunk is silly.
My third attempt had everyone sheltered, fed and the few ill being treated accordingly. Plenty of resources of all kinds. Despite 'discontent' being very low it still played out in the same way the previous two had - with the bloody Londoners wanting to leave and 'hope' falling through the floor for no obvious reason.
If these things are as scripted as they appear I can't be arsed to go through them again.

Some stuff is scripted like the Londoners https://frostpunk.fandom.com/wiki/A_New_Home

Bloody londoners! The trick is to hold some good policy decisions back, like declare pubs can now be opened, then if hope falls you can cheer every one up.
