Winter gloves

  • I still think you're not making enough heat yourself then, and so having some manufactured for you will help. Yoo could loose a few layers too.

Heated gloves and then heated vest.

I used to commute on the motorbike around M25. After freezing my balls off i bought heated gloves, muffs and heated jacket. Warm thereafter.

  • After freezing my balls off

One less battery operated piece of clothing to buy, I suppose.

  • Neoprene gloves, amazing when wet, average when dry. When mine soaked through the other day they were mega toasty by the time I got home, but my hands were frozen when they stayed dry the day before.
CSB etc, but was just surprised how stark the difference was.

  • Yes! I have similar Swedish army surplus mitts with a weird liner like an old oven glove. In minus 15 my hands got sweaty

  • £7 shipping?! Are they delivered by a fucking Harrier jet?

  • Have some lovely primaloft gloves but they struggle a little well below 0 and need something that will stay waterproof for sustained periods, so...

What are the most packable & waterproof overgloves people are using? Anything to top these..

Some loss of dexterity but these work pretty well. My winter bike has bar end shifters so it's not a major issue for me.

  • I bought a pair of these early December, definite loss of dexterity but very very warm and decently waterproof. Find my hands getting a bit sweaty if it's above 5C, but they are amazing below that and an absolute bargain at the price.

  • I really like my Endura Primalofts with a thin liner when it gets close to freezing.

  • I've a lovely pair of primaloft gold castelli gloves.. but looking to add a layer for extreme cold or driving rain...

  • I've been loving my Sealskinz lobster boys since I bought them about this time last year. They've been keeping my Raynaud's stricken hands toasty in the recent cold snap. Wish I'd bought them sooner!

  • Completely missed that, sorry. You dropbar or flatbar? Could go the pogie route, either DIY or bought?

  • Given the agony I normally feel in my hands if it gets even close to being cold, the 45nrth Sturmfist 4 gloves have made what would have been a miserable time totally doable. Even through the last four months of 4am starts. I wear them with silk liners too so I don't sweat straight into them.
They're rated to the lowest temperature of all the 45nrth gloves. Well worth the expense if you suffer really badly with your hands.

  • I tried those Lomo gloves above on a ride yesterday, my finger tips were frosty for the first
20min but then warmed up and my hands stayed warm for the whole ride.
When I took them off they were soaked in sweat and I have been trying to dry them out since.
They had 45min on the boot dryer and then propped on the towel radiator over night and they are still damp inside! £25 is a bit much for single use gloves.

  • I don't suffer from cold hands particularly but when it's cold and wet all my gloves are useless but it's only my finger tips that get cold.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I think bar mitts would be the obvious choice but the temp here (lyon) fluctuates massively, we've gone from minus temps to 15 degrees back to minus again the space of a couple days this week so I wouldn't want a permanent glove.

  • I would recommend the Decathlon overgloves, you can layer them with your favourite gloves and there is a big enough air gap inside to cut out wind chill.

  • I got a pair of these at christmas and they're brilliant

This, however, is the best bit. A small piece of elastic that goes around your wrist so when you take them off you don't need to put them anywhere. Means when cycling and you want to check your phone you can just leave them to dangle while riding, or when locking up you don't have to balance them somewhere. For something that's so simple, it makes such a difference to the use of the gloves

  • I'll pop into decathlon next week and try a few out, never thought to look at ski gloves I just assumed they'd be really bulky?

  • Those bloody Lomo things are still damp at the finger tips, I have never seen anything like that. It's been almost 30 hours now.

  • I’m currently using a pair of what I assume were skiing gloves. Got them for 4 quid in a charity shop, nicely made and have worn them in the -2/3 mornings with no bother. Best gloves I’ve had in ages.

  • Been reading this keenly as I'm always on the lookout for better gloves.

I'm going to try and get the decathlon over gloves tomorrow.

I've tried ski gloves and they are OK for cold but rubbish for wet as you can't layer them under your jacket.

  • They are, but it’s been fucking cold this week so I don’t mind.

  • Wanted some of those Japanese Showa Temres 282-02 but couldn’t be arsed importing them.

I ordered some last year, I think I managed to find a UK distributor - a friend who is sometimes on here sent me to a couple of climber blogs and the lengths they (climbers) go to get these.

    Utter tosh.
They might work for climbing, but definitely not for riding. I now use them for diy and light gardening, for which they are excellent
Don't bother, they are for great waterproof needs, but they won't keep your hands warm, unless you run very hot.

  • Can you turn them inside out?
