I follow this chap on twitter. Not much use if you understandably hate that place though.

That first link posted by small looks a good one for keeping an eye on things too, as it has the EPC rate nice and clear.

Just had an email from Shell Energy to say they've been bought by Octopus.

Just had an email from Shell Energy to say they've been bought by Octopus.
Wonder what this means for my broadband?

Only just come through? That deal was announced over the summer so that look some time! Maybe pre-occupied with getting Bulb customers into the Octopus brand…?
-
• #831
It initially sounded like the deal was only for the energy arm: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66684386
And the FAQs here for the acquisition seem to imply it’ll still be with Shell at least for now (right at the bottom): https://octopus.energy/shell/

I'm shifting to Octopus for their GO tariff as we've got two EVs, a heat pump & solar + battery installs booked.
Ditching a decent EDF plan (19p per kWh all day / night) which expires in March) and a shit British Gas deal. Octopus will then remove the gas meter when the heat pump is installed.
Anyone got a referral code?

I got my referral code through here so will pay forward:

Having a play and signed up for the Octopus energy saver session this evening, and discovered that my phantom draw is still 117w. Is that a lot? Obviously have a fridge/freezer, WiFi, a tv and few Sonos speakers plugged in but not in use.
-
• #836
Pretty low. Mine is around 250w
-
• #837
Fridge/freezer makes a difference I find. It’s not always actively cooling, so I’ve got 63w draw when it’s “off” and 170w draw when it’s actively cooling.
This is with a few led lights and things on as well as router etc so yours sound pretty good

Something like 3p/hr.

Jumped on to the octopus tracker for gas, seems to be a lot cheaper at the moment

First day of battery and solar setup - no peak usage.
Battery charging during 7.5p rate overnight and that's it. Less than 80p spent.

Not much excess solar in Jan, but if you haven't already, they have recently changed things and will accept to put you on the 15p/kw fixed export tariff now on your intelligent octopus go tariff.
During the summer, being able to fill the battery and charge the EVs at 7.5p, and export all excess solar at 15p will be hugely cost effective.

It literally went live on our tariff today :-D
We've so far exported .8 kWh (12p!!!) after the battery filled up this morning through solar.
Pulling down 2 kW from the array right now.

We had a electrical meter switch in October, for some reason they said that they would backdate the export tariff to October.... very kind!
-
• #844
Nice! Don’t think they’re doing that and we’ve only had the solar for a week so 🤷🏼♂️
Seems great so far though.

Hive are offering a month's free trial of their subscription plan (no automatic billing after), but setting it up requires latest annual gas and electricity use in kWh.
Am with Octopus but failing to find this. Any ideas?
Edit: Just realised I can estimate it from meter readings 12 months ago. Gas will need converting, is electric in kWh already?

anyone have an Octopus referral code? I moved house but it seems like they failed to send my account with me, may as well take advantage.
-
• #847
Welcome to use mine - I was referred from here so pay it forward https://share.octopus.energy/pink-owl-905
-
• #848
thanks! I'm now wondering if I need to use a different email given that I've had accounts with them before.
-

Has anyone got there smart meters removed? Just bought a new house and want them out.
-
• #850
I don't think you can, seem to recall some legislation / regulations for new houses. Maybe I'm thinking of water meters?
