Steve at Aurum, believe he used to work at armourtex. Can be a bit slow at replying to emails. Drop off at the hackney peddler, week or two turnaround. Not the cheapest but was a good job.

  • Cheers. It's all steel. Small cargo bike but hoping that won't make much difference.
Hackney Peddler seems to be 'prices start at 180' for powdercoating. Will see if I can get over my aversion to speaking to people and call Mario.

  • @ad441 Did you get your bike painted in the end? Looking at getting my steel bike done but before I chance it with the Spray.bike stuff, maybe look to get a pro do it. Who did you go with in the end, and what was the price?

  • No, other stuff got in the way... literally no progress at all. Do let me know if you get anywhere with it. It's fairly low down on my priority list at the moment unfortunately.

  • Dont use spray.bike dude. Awful weak finish.

  • Just got a frame painted by Mario. Very happy with it.
Think it’s £130 for a single colour, £150 for metallic.

I can't remember the price for Powder coating, but think it's cheaper.

I believe he works till 5 on weekdays + saturday mornings (don’t quote me on that)

Give him a call to check before turning up, but in my case, it was much easier to chat in person than email. Think he just deals with bikes when they’re there, rather than booking anything in.

  • Bike looks like this. 👇

It was the first frame I’d had done, and was a bit unsure of the process, so I’ll write a few notes. Apologies if everyone knows this. My brain needed a list.

    • Took 2-3 weeks from drop off to pickup.
Mario said it was good to go then, but I left the frame for another 2 weeks before building it.

    • They send it off to be blasted and check the frame a bit
In my case, he filled in a small dent.

    • He can mix up any colour you want.
Can’t say how accurate this is, I just gave a brief of “dark, metallic blue”

    • I believe he has some logos / decals in stock
But check if it’s something special, or bring along yourself.
I didn’t want any decals personally.

    • Think they also organise powder coating, which is more durable.
Not sure about price, but think it’s cheaper.

    • If you’re building the bike yourself, one thing I forgot was that I’d have to chase / tap any threads on the frame - to remove any stray bits of paint.
Winston (Mario’s brother) did this on the BB, but I did it myself on the hanger & rack/mudguard mounts. Was easy enough. The relevant taps were £10 each from SJS.

  • Hey, are those Conti Grand Prix some sort of retro model, or just really old?

  • Ha, good eye!

    They are Grand Prix Classics.

Got them a few years ago, so they're not old old, but they also don't make them anymore.

Need to make a thread for my bike at some point.

  • That finish looks immaculate! I'll need to check in with Mario when I'm back. Did you strip the bike and just take the frame/fork to his shop?

  • Anyone here able to cut and post masks for a fee? Painting up a frame at some point in the coming months and would rather paint the logos than sticker them!

  • May be contact @general_greyharbour if he's still spraying.

  • Get in my DMs. I can do this for you

  • What do people do for custom decals? I'd like to add personal name to my frame.

It seems I need to go via Hackney Peddler as can't get through to Steve on the phone, and Mario couldn't do the colour wanted for PPC.

Btw image attached shows iridescence Hackney can add to RAL colours. They said £220 for single colour with that. Doesn't seem you can ask for Prismatic unless someone knows different way to go about this?

  • Can't help you on the prismatic but if you're looking for waterslide under the clearcoat then Gil at Retrodecals would be a good bet.

    https://www.facebook.com/retrodecals

I've got a direct email if you don't do Facebook, DM me.

  • Second to retro decals. Good customer service and fast turnaround / delivery…they even sent me an extra set, for when of course I messed up the alignment

  • What is the closest ral to this?

  • I couldn't tell you what code that is but you can't beat a green bike!

  • 6018 according to Coolors

  • 6038 looks a more popping bet

  • I've got some horrible scratches to the paint job on a carbon frame where the chain dropped and got caught up behind the crank, can anyone recommend somewhere in/near London I can take it to get patched up?
