Mad. When I was that age even the rich kids would buy each other like an All Saints belt or something.

I've not read the replies, but if he wants an apple watch, let her get him an apple watch.
Regarding obsolesces, I got my wife one in 2020 and she still wears it daily. I know that is not that long but it is still going strong. (also, cost me about £500)
Fairly sure my brother is using an older one that was donated to him. They are more that a watch, whether that is a good thing or not is up for debate, I wouldn't wear one (aside from not owning anything Apple, I like wearing watches)

Fair point - get him what he wants.
I am maybe too old to accept the disposable nature of society now. I had to throw a shirt out this week as holes were starting to appear in the collar - it almost killed me putting it in the bin 😂😂😂 -

I recently got an Apple Watch for free through my health insurance company, so long as I do a minimum of exercise per month (it's a paltry amount).
Re watch vs Fitbit: I don't have to pay a subscription to Fitbit for a lot of stuff that's included with an Apple Watch for free, I can record Strava activities straight from my watch and it tracks HR data, I can cache music on it within Spotify and it can connect to my Airpods. But most importantly, I can say to hit 'Hey Siri, set a ten minute timer'. I have no notifications going to the watch other than 'its time to stand up' (once an hour), and fitness activity updates.
Like @regal says, its a proper computer. Fitbit definitely has its place, but an Apple Watch is definitely more capable. Charging it is a total pain in the arse though.

I stand corrected, said the man in the suboptimal tech watch
(but i still think you could more easily wear a fitbit and a regular watch, not that I would, or do)

I wore a Fitbit on one wrist and a proper watch on the other whilst I was pursuing a particular step count per day - I can confirm it felt fine whilst wearing my Apple Watch and a proper watch felt deeply stupid.

People are likely to view you as a borderline sociopath if you double watch

This is quite a good take on a derivative design: https://farer.com/products/discovery-black-velvet-36mm?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=campaign&_kx=sNSjxr8Ocx0PTFWT3x527CBvqHBN7MFVxX6blqCo2QFrrkCAAIO0hqEHJBfM3Qaa.SJsfyX

I have broken 4 of them
Perhaps the one for you is the Ultra. Ruggedised, but 800 pounds. Can also go 40m underwater. Might be fun if you or your daughter's bf are divers. Though the Garmin one is probably better.

Agreed.

Really nice! I have been trying hard to not buy one, convincing myself I could pick up a Nomos 2nd hand or save for an Omega Aqua terra 2504.50 instead 🫣

Thanks. May be a little out of the price range but worth considering.

Wish they were just a touch smaller (or that I was a touch bigger).

The 2100 is one of my favourites, and I think they wear really well. Have you tried one of the smaller ones? The GMA-S2100 line? They look great but because of the angle of the strap coming from the case they really only work on smaller wrists (smaller than mine certainly).

Innit! I earwigged a conversation on a train pre-Christmas where these young girls were talking about presents for their boyfriends… “He really wants a nice gold chain…”
I bet he fucking does.
