Yeah I dunno, either porn featuring knives or more EDC/ look at this sexy killing tool that I actually just use to open cured meat packets in Viccy Park on a summer’s eve
(Sorry bit of a judgemental derail – recommend me a veg knife!) -

Hard to go wrong with ProCook in that range.
Beware paying full price with them though - they very often have sales, you may even be able to get two during a sale. -

Am looking forward to using it to make my coleslaw tonight.

Sweet

Couldn’t you just use one of those wooden knives that pop up food stalls give you?
-
• #5907
That does look pretty wonderful.

Am looking forward to using it to open my coleslaw tub tonight.

Having made the coleslaw, I can confirm that it works rather well.

• #5910
But was it really better than a disposable wooden knife? You ghastly elitist
-
• #5911
What's the appropriate bevel angle and Rockwell hardness for chopping coleslaw?
-
• #5912
How does that compare to the usual petty that you use?

Thanks this is ideal. I’ve not used a Nakiri before but it sounds like it’s exactly what I’m after?
This one is well under budget and looks nice – https://www.procook.co.uk/product/nihon-x50-nakiri-knife-16cm-65in -

I have that exact knife. It's good, holds an edge well and I've not managed to chip it yet. Sure there are better ones but for the money they're hard to beat. Sometimes they're even more heavily discounted.

I think it’s reasonable. I remember having a very similar reaction to the thread title when I first saw it, (before clicking into the thread) but it has since faded into the humdrum.
I think there is definitely a fair bit of dissonance between bike ‘porn’ and the calling bikes ‘she’ and probably some unpacking between casual attribution of sexual value to things that are ‘good’ and the inverse. I don’t care enough to do so though.
Anyway - I agree with the pro-cook recommendation at that price, if not victorinox (with a nicer handle if budget/tastes allow)

Nice one, just ordered and chucked in a matching bread knife too.

Talking of knives…

A petty seems vastly inefficient for making coleslaw.
Unless it’s single batch artisan coleslaw. -
• #5919
Coleslaw should be made with a mandolin or a magimix
-
• #5920
Sorry you need the functional knives not porn not anti porn thread.
-
• #5921
Chalk and cheese, really.
The santoku is nearly twice the size of the petty, and the profile of the blade is totally different. -
• #5922
The knives that function but can also be beautiful if you want and have the money thread?
Spamming this thread as I was expecting a new knife yesterday but the post obviously arrived in the 10 minutes I was out collecting the kids. Hoping it arrives today instead.

My nicest SAK:
But not so functional, as it’s too long and locks, so not for daily carry.
Also, the walnut scales feel and look great, but drink up water.

but drink up water.
Oil it, no?

I guess it was to preserve the lighter walnut colour. I have a oil/beeswax cutting board conditioning blend that would work well.
and i was utterly wrong, looking back at the thread beginnings...
