• Hi Hippy,

Sorry for the late reply. Currently packing up my life, slowly, as I depart in over a month now.
I decided not to ship anything ahead, I found a great deal with China Southern airline, which allowed me to add on extra luggage relatively inexpensively. ~US$175 for additional luggage all the way to Melb.
So I'm just going to bring it as additional luggage, packaging it in a box from my LBS.

  • Cheers. Yeah, that's normally the best way. I've used Signapore and maybe Emirates in the past because they have a more generous baggage allowance - handy for a bike. But I don't know when I'll be going back so will probably just try and sell the bike rather than ship it.

  • Hi, hoping someone with experience can help me! Would be grateful.

I'm in Germany and want to pay for a frameset in the UK. The max. item worth to avoid import charges (but not taxes) is €150, which is my case.

From everything I have read, if one pays in one amount, shipping and item, and they cannot determine for sure a distinction between the two, then the customs people will simply view the item worth in total and it will mean I would pay both import charge (15%) and tax (19%).

How have others experienced or done this?

    • A lump sum and then get a copy of courier receipt + listing the two costs in the reference section when I pay?
    • Or, play it safe and pay for the frameset and shipping prices separately? Which would seem an unusual approach.

Failing all that, maybe just call the import office here tomorrow first.

  • Anyone sent a bike to EU recently? Thinking about shipping a bike to Italy to keep there for when I visit family, but don't want to wait for my next visit.

  • Wait for next visit and bring it with you. Think a bike on a plane is 50 quid instead of 100+

  • Want to order an S2C hub from Holland bike shop, but they don’t ship to the UK anymore. Is there an intermediary company I can forward it through? Bloody brexit…
