Drumshack on Lavender Hill? SW tho.

Good shout for next time. Just ordered online in the end! Is there a less exciting way to spend nearly £150 than new skins?

I don't know... I find sticks to be equally uninspiring once you've settled on ones you like and you're just stockpiling them.
Speaking of which what's everyones stick of choice?
I go between Vic Firth Buddy Rich and Dave Weckl Evolution, both wood tips...
I probably use the Dave Weckl ones more but the Buddy Rich ones seem to hit harder. -

Vic Firth 7a in either nylon or wooden tip, whichever is available. I've tried loads of brands over the years but Vic Firth just last forever.

I picked up a Tama Starclassic Bubinga/Birch last week. Unfortunately won't have the chance to play it for a couple of weeks but look at that sparkle!

nice!! what sizes? and did you manage to sell the dw?
RE: sticks, my go to are the promark japanese oak 5B - have a bit more weight to them that the american hickory version and seem to last a bit longer.

12", 16", 22" and yep, sold the DW to fund this. I should really try and play it before recording in a few weeks.

Finally managed to play the Starclassic (whilst recording). It's great! It sounds so beefy and has loads of really well thought out features that make it nice and easy to set up quickly and consistently. That sparkle!

nah, ‘fraid not - it’s the drummer and bassist from the first EP and album (though i think the latter is on guitar duties here) - far more technically proficient player than I am, mind!
Have recently started talking about starting to do something musical again once my broken elbow’s healed - will shout if anything goes anywhere, will end up somewhere on the punk-doom continuum i’m sure

looks bloody lovely! which SLP is that?
makes me want to do silly things like buy a kit i have no money to buy and nowhere to play :D -
• #188
I can't remember actually! I just bought the biggest snare I could get my hands on, it really cuts through when we're playing in grubby little venues with no mics. Sounds great as well!

Ah, got you! Looking forward to seeing them anyway. It'll be my first time at the Cowley Club in years as well.

Selling my Yamaha Stage Custom kit
Sorry for the cross post -
• #192
I think I've asked on here before but thought it was worth another go. Does anyone want an Iron Cobra double pedal? It's probably 15 years old and definitely not in amazing shape. Massive downside, some prick wrote my name and the name of one of my shitty bands on the case in massive letters. I did change the bearings recently though. Yours for a forum donation if you can pick it up from SE20!

I have passed the bug to my 8year old son who starts lessons next week.
Does anyone have my leads for a good quality small second hand kit?
Not necessarily a junior kit, just something scalled down.
Thinking 10inch toms, 18inch bass drum, 12 inch hats.Basically a Richard Spaven kind of set up.
Anything about?

i’ve had good experiences with Graham Russell Drums in the past, and they have this second-hand 3-piece shall pack at the mo:
https://www.grahamrusselldrums.com/used-odery-fluence-jazz-18-drum-kit-white-marine-p.htmlobvs becomes more expensive once you’ve factored in snare/hardware/cymbals.
otherwise trawling ebay and the fb drum groups possibly your best bet.

I sold my kit to drumshack, they sell second hand stuff.
eBay will be cheaper if you can handle more faff. Catalina club kits / jazz club kits are your friend. 18" bass drum is a great shout also, I love mine.

Facebook marketplace is good if you can face it as well. Good call going for a "proper" kit off the bat I reckon. I started playing when I was a similar age and got fed up of the kids kit quite quickly.

I been thinking about this. I would say go for 13" hi hats because they sound better than 12".
A 12"or 13" snare might be a shout because maybe a 14" drum shell is perhaps a big thing to straddle fire an 8 year old. I've no idea.

I should have taken singing lessons.

Ebay for the win!
Just snaffled this.
Yamaha stage custom bop kit.
18" bass drum, 12" snare, 10" and 12" toms in lush natural finish.
Comes with yamaha hardware and basic cymbal set too.Is the tidy little jazz kit I dreamed of owning in my twenties, which is also coincidentally the right size for the boy to learn on.
Pretty chuffed to be honest.

Any suggestions for decent independent drum shops? Either in London (central or SE) or online? Need to buy a new set of heads, some sticks etc and would rather support an independent than Amazon/PMT etc.
