That's possible, but I keep with the advice I got twenty years ago from the textiles guy.
And I can tell by touch when one of my abused merino shirts lands in the wash with normal colour detergent.
Apart from that quite a lot of my stuff is vintage or quite nice. I even use a wool treatment that has lanolin in it.

Shampoo is bad as its meant to make your hair not greasy. Wool wants to keep it's natural grease.
Use wool stuff.
