  • I bought this 2017 CaadX Apex 1 in a pretty sorry state some time ago, finally got it rideable yesterday. Seems like quite a good one based on my morning commute.

  • Nice!
That looks like a wild commute

  • Thanks, it's nice but rather cold, I think it was -22 degrees Celcius and windy when I briefly stopped to take the picture.

  • CAAD10 track with alpinas

  • Nice! Yours?

  • Das Rad 😎

  • @jono84 - see? see?! they make everything better. :D

  • Nice

Campa crankset + classic drop. it looks like mine

  • Haha, yeah nothing to do with the long slammed stem, deep carbon and a healthy amount of seatpost! Alpina won't save my ageing T-rex aesthetics!

@b0n0rv2 looks great, did you use a 1 1/4 adapter?

  • I see a few caad 10 track owners here - mine has the original threaded b/b insert thing in, which, surprise surprise, has started to creak.

Anyone else? What did you do, remove it and put something else in? I’m running Shimano hollow tech road chainset in there atm, would prefer to keep it.

  • started to creak

Injuries aside i haven't used mine in a while for exactly this reason. I'd like to pop out the og sleeve out and either replace or reinsert it however i'm concerned that Cannondale may have used glue. Maybe someone here can confirm otherwise i guess heat and patience will be needed (plus a press tool that i lack atm).

  • I have extracted mine and glued it back with loctite 603. It was preventative since I never had a problem. And haven't had any problems since...

  • Good to know, i'll be gluing mine. Was there any glue used from the factory or did it come out smoothly?

  • I would tend to follow @Elpolo s advice .when cannondale leaves us hanging

  • How do you take it out though? Just hit it?

  • Er no. You need a press and ideally this FSA BB30 threaded adapter removal tool

I'm cheap so used two thick gauge alloy tubes of the correct diameter

  • Loctite is what they're supposed to be installed with afaik. It comes with a sachet when you buy the official sleeve

  • I pushed it out pretty soon after I first got it, and replaced it with a praxis collet bb thing.

  • Perfect, thanks for the info. Cannondale are such dicks. Had four of them, three creaked, one irreversibly, the only one that hasn’t is a 00s caad 8 threaded b/b

  • I think you’re doing it wrong. I’ve owned loads of ‘dales and the only one that creaks is my track but that’s because of the threaded insert.

Too many people blame their bad mechanical skills on press fit BBs

  • Haha, yeah. Bad mechanical skills in the way i wielded my money when I bought the bikes.

They creaked from the factory-installed BBs after not many miles; nobody should have to do anything to a new bike to stop it creaking, and BBs should last many thousands of miles before going rough/developing play. If they creak a bit then, then fair enough I suppose.

Given how minuscule (actually unmeasurable) the ‘advantage’ of press-fit is over threaded it’s just bad design/engineering.

  • Cannondales were born to creak, it’s what they love to do. Why won’t you just let them creak?

  • How do you think the bearings gets into that shell which you thread into the frame?

  • Other than the king
