0.5kg/week is often quoted as a "sensible" rate of loss. Working back from this:-
1 lb (454g) of fat is 3500 kcal.
3500 kcal / 454 * 500 =~ 3854 kcal
3854 kcal / 7 days =~ 550kcal /day
