  • Obliterated is fucking stupid, but quite fun.

  • It's a slow burner but I really enjoyed Drops of God. Also about halfway through Lessons in Chemistry that my other half suggested, v enjoyable

  • High Desert is enjoyable.

I'd forgotten about Drops of God, which I watched a while back. Was good. I'll give Lessons in Chemistry a whirl next. Ta.

  • My gf is loving this and obviously everyone raved about the first series so I watched an episode but it just seemed like another, slightly less annoying, reality tv show to me. I'm obviously missing something.

  • Did you watch Rise and Fall on Channel 4 last year? (still on All 4 or whatever its called today). I honestly think it was waaay more entertaining than The Traitors.

This second series lot of Traitors are so fucking dumb, how can they not understand voting for each other makes them individually more vulnerable to being sussed out?!

  • No, but I'll add it to the list. Cheers.

My OH and I really disagreed about this. I saw it coming and thought that it made sense based on the mood, the risk, and consolidating their position. Her logic was probably better - 2 votes isn't enough as a % to carry it in the event of others changing their opinion, so it's high risk with little upside and high downside.

The one thing I wonder about is the ability for Traitors to have any real tactics beyond getting rid of some stronger players early. The totally spurious reasons Faithfulls come up with for being guilty make it seem almost randomised - e.g. asking too many people who they'll vote for, being nervous in high pressure situations, making the totally fucking obvious point that early on given the ratios there is nothing solid to go on.

One thing is has made me think tho is it shows why our trials are the way they are. If you let 12 people just have a fucking chat it'd be awful!

  • Lessons in Chemistry

Read the blurb and genuinely didn't think this would be up my street, but gave it a whirl for a couple of episodes thinking: well, it has Brie Larson in it at the very least. I was worried about halfway through episode two my suspicions would prove correct, but it turns out I was wrong. Now genuinely looking forward to watching the rest.

  • If Fargo couldn't have got any better, the use of YMCA over that scene was perfect.

  • Just watched it.... And it's still not over!

Don Draper in a cowboy hat is fucking amazing. The writing for his character is spot on.

It's been a while since I enjoyed something this much.

  • The Brothers Sun πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

  • Slow Horses

    The books are great too.

Started with the first one, the book and TV match perfectly to a point were it is too hard to read. Do you know which ones have not been serialised?

  • 4 and onwards. 1, 2,3 are now series.

  • They totally slowed down the Travelator to let the men's loser finish the course on Gladiators yesterday.

That is the only complaint I have about the most pleasantly Proustian hour I've had this year, sat with my boy really getting into Hang Tough, The Gauntlet etc. Well, that and Bradley Walsh's lad.

  • They used to do that on the original series. If they don't get up the first time or second time, it's unlikely they will make it up at all. Sadly there was no love for the new version in this household, zero humour compared to Ninja Warrior and Total Wipeout. Bradley and son out!

  • They totally slowed down the Travelator

haha i said exactly the same thing watching it!

Bradley Walsh and his son were proper proper shit as hosts. I can think of 1,000 better people, my partner thinks they must have invested in the production to have been given the job because there is no way they could have won a proper audition.

  • 71.

    Wolf is 71.

    Fuuuuck.

  • The original American Gladiators was crazy . Two contestants would get a few seconds to say something cheesy about how hyped they were to be competing, next thing you saw them pulling themselves upside down along a velcro racetrack laid into the ceiling, while the over-caffeinated commentators went nuts as if it was the SuperBowl. Brief bit of testosterone-addled nonsense from the winner, then on to the next event.

ITV thought it would be more interesting if the interludes had Ulrika spend 5 minutes interviewing a contestant in his rainy back garden about voluntary work for a donkey sanctuary, then talk to his kids.

  • There's a really good documentary about the origins of the US gladiators programme. I think it's on Netflix called Muscle & Mayhem.

  • I think you'll find it's Uuuull-ri-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka.

  • first ep of new True Detective series seems to have slipped into supernatural horror territory a lil bit but was an engaging watch.

need to go back to s2 which i didn't make it through & s3 which i've skipped

  • We're looking for our next series to watch. Things we have watched recently and loved are:
    Slow Horses
    the Bear
    Gold
    Severance
    Succession
    The Boys

Any recommendations gratefully received. Should we try Fargo again? I liked the first 2 seasons albeit felt like we needed a break so didn't push on with 3....

  • need to go back to s2 which i didn't make it through & s3 which i've skipped

I think S2 was dogshit but S3 was back to form. I was about to watch it last night but thought it was a little late to start an hour show at 0100 so looked at my phone for 2 hours instead.

  • Latest season of Fargo (5) is excellent. On prime.

Have you watched Mr Inbetween on Disney+?

Also, there's a The Boys spinoff called Gen V on prime too though I haven't watched it.

  • Yellowjackets?

It's a lot of fun, tone is maybe similar to a few on your list.
We bought the series on appleTV, but I think it's on paramount+ if you want to sign up for the trial.
