press-gang a sizeable collection of random established professionals in relevant fields to make the decisions for a year or two each, shirley?
Isn't this dispensing with elected democracy?
-
• #6278
We can elect to chuck them out and ostracise them if they do a terrible job
-
• #6279
Isn't this dispensing with elected democracy?
Well, that's clearly not worked anyway.
-
• #6280
I don't think that would prevent corruption though. The only way to stop MPs from doing corrupt things for their own benefit is to prevent them from earning money* before, during and for some time after their service.
* or any kind of non-monetary benefit like a such as a holiday in St Vincent and the Grenadines
-
• #6281
On top of all these suggestions it would be great if they were held accountable for some of this shit when they do it.
-
• #6282
Let them earn as much as they want on the proviso that if they do anything illegal or generally shitty or just don’t actually do their job of being an mp they get ripped apart by wild dogs.
Still no second home though, straight up piss take that one. -
• #6283
Squid games but with scandals resulting in death rather than a large doll with laser eyes. They can have all the second/third/fourth homes they want but the fall from grace and accountability is even tastier as a result.
-
• #6284
Pay them £2M a year but they have to wear an explosive collar that detonates if they think impure thoughts? We could televise it.
-
• #6285
best idea so far.
-
• #6286
Oh look, military action against a powerless nation of brown people - who could have seen this coming in an election year?
Odds on a Sunak photoshoot on an aircraft carrier before next weekend please...

Showing his support for 'our boys'

on an aircraft carrier
As if he has a choice.
-
• #6289
This, but also it's a shock collar, and members of the public can shock them when they behave like cunts.
They need those for reality TV too.

Odds on a Sunak photoshoot on an aircraft carrier before next weekend please...
With no aircraft on it

The cat clearly hates him. The mouse-faced cunt
Been busy with the rattle can?

Not read the article. Please tell me that was £27k on one really nice bottle.
-
• #6294
I'd much rather they were forced to drink 9k bottles of 2.99 gut rot.
-
• #6295
Isn't it parliament not government?
27 grand isn't a lot in the scheme of things and some of that will be investment wine as the parliamentary cellar is supposed to be self funding through investments and divestments.
A bottle of petrus could be £4k
-
• #6296
Thank fuck that someone had the presence of mind during COVID to make sure that the Houses of Parliament wine investment wasn’t negatively impacted, if it had been the Tax Payers Alliance would have been livid.
I guess that with everything going on, not considering the optics is understandable
-
• #6297
not considering the optics
Why, how much did they spend on them?
-
• #6298
It just seems a whine (lolz) over nothing.
27k within year the countries annual spend, this will be a small aspect of someones job for ensuring stores are there for entertaining dignitaries.
This is the press covering up for more Tory fuckups with a nothingburger. Again.
-
• #6299
Exactly 😀
-
• #6300
Hang on, didn't we all do that?
Make it like national service and press-gang a sizeable collection of random established professionals in relevant fields to make the decisions for a year or two each, shirley?
I cant see any situation where the majority of people who actually want to be MPs aren't in it for their own benefit
