Oh no. Put a sprock(et) in it! We don't have timing chain for this ride now.

Honestly a dream bike.

Nice colour. No curves (except the mudguards which can get in the bin). But rim brakes... come on guys...

Looks like a fast road bike to me…echoing hippy rim brakes are silly in this land of sfab

I'm going to send you 6 pairs of Rim brakes instead of this torque wrench.

Hey, I did my time with rim brakes! Actually I'm still riding my Tarmac (DA rim brakes are lovely) and the Focus CX thing (cantis are death) but if you build a new bike with rim brakes these days, especially for off-road use, you're a mug.

I have a 32 year old Klein MTB with Cantis that stops better and is far less of a pain in the arse than any of the disc brake bikes I own. The similarly-aged XT shifters also work better than a lot of modern shit. It's also bright pink which gives bonus points.
We've all fallen victim to Big Bike® propaganda. Good products have a long buying cycle so they have to think of new shit to sell to us mugs.

That sounds more like a you and disc brake problem rather than a 'cantis work' statement.

My Marin 1x1 goes off road all the time and is more than fine!!
I guess the riding you do is different to my pootle round the woods!

Even if it were true, you know what I also like about discs? Not having my rims slowly turn to dust just to brake.
-
• #29237
Even if it were true, you know what I like about discs? Being able to stop 130kg of meat and steel on steep descents with one-finger. No sore hands (except the shifter thumb) no arm pump, etc.

Well sure, all bikes can do all things, right? Just you might have more fun or less fun depending on which bike you've picked. I fucking love riding that shitty CX bike through sloppy fields and canal paths in West London after it pissed it down but would I want to ride Badlands on it? Fuck no.

Disc brakes aren't going to marry you, you know ;)
-
• #29240
Cantis aren't going to stop you in the wet, you know ;)

I treat 'em too mean anyway. It'd never last. Much like my drivetrain components, there'd be potential for authorities to get involved, mediation would be attempted and fail, threats of violence and then an expensive break up and the kids end up scattered around the place.

They will eventually. The trick is to know when to start braking so you don't use something hard, like a tree, to stop instead.
-
• #29243
Ah yes. Cantis for race bikes, they slow you down faster
-
• #29244
I dont ride more than 30km these days with 70kg of meat on my rim brake bike and my forearms are made of steel (Jokes they are not)
(I do like hydro brakes fyi and always enjoy the experience)
Wait, no canti bikes in badlands....Im out.
-
• #29245
YOU can run cantis in Badlands. I won't be. :)
I think I'm down to a single canti in my life nowadays, the rear brake on the Focus. Just need to destroy or sell that and we're done. Oh, still have Vees on my hardtail in Oz. But there's no hills or cars for miles so you can ride all day without actually needing brakes there.

The answer is obviously hydro rim brakes.

Now convert them to drop bar levers, and you’ve got yourself a deal.

Riding in the wet lol

I have hydro rim brakes on the Shiv. :)
For a rim brake hater, I sure have a lot of rim brakes...
Hate is too strong of a word. I just would try hard to avoid them on future bikes, much like most of my bikes are Di2 now.
Was it black and also a computer?
Guess it's a start.
