87 is an indicator you're at risk of high blood pressure. I'm not sure its anything to be overly concerned about by itself.

Less so that it was at a clinic, as the readings are expected to be +5/+5 compared to those at home.

  • 24 hour ecg tape.

I'm being lined up for one of these - when i remember to call my GP back.

The ECG i had at the surgery was fairly inconclusive - unsurprising as I wasn't experiencing symptoms at the time - but as soon as I got back home, my heart was clanging again like it was trying escape.

  • Have you tried the val salve manoeuvre a few times with your feet/legs as high as possible.

  • Only when I have an audience.

But no - It's not PVCs / ectopics / extrasystoles (which, ironically, I hardly get any more) - it's palpitations, but seemingly all the time.

  • Evening test was 116/ 78, this morning 111 / 82, despite still getting clammy palms and elevated HR during the tests. I did relaxation breathing before both to try and manage it.

I think those results are probably ok, but would be nice to be solidly in the sub 80 range on diastolic.

  • After 4 days of taking BP twice in the morning and the evening, I don't have the anxiety response to the test. 113 / 70 this morning with pulse of 51. Hopefully useful for anyone starting to do home testing and feeling anxious about the results. Give it a few days and it will settle down.

  • Try to leave around 2mins between readings. I normally take three reading and then average out the results. I found my first is always high and then goes down with each reading.

  • Heh - I just keep on taking mine until it's normal.

In fairness, it does mean that I am taking the time to do some breathing exercises and to calm things down.

Finally got round to calling my GP again, and have a referral for a 24 hour ECG.
