  • Also… this year is the year I do something other than just having loads of grass. Open to suggestions 😅

Idk why it's disappeared from iplayer, but Your Garden Made Perfect was good for more interesting projects https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000ry6w
See if you can find it.

Garden Rescue with Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers is a bit more budget/simpler. Although in reality that show has a lot of free labour, whereas on average, the plant spend on Your Garden Made Perfect is only 10% of budget. So a £2k Garden Rescue could well be well north of £10k irl.

Given you have the play area and deck, I would start with that.

    • plant some thin wispy shit around the deck to make it more interesting and section it off.
    • plant big leafy interesting plants around the play area to make it more woodland+like and create places of interest for your daughter.

After that I would probably just add boarders. Pleached Trees in that back bed would give a nicer view too.

Idk what your kid is like, but unfortunately I think the reality is that it's really useful to have a decent sized patch of grass when you've got kids.

Depending how you feel about water safety a pond would be cool and will be great for nature and give interest. This guy is great on that stuff: https://youtube.com/@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton?si=P7EtYpSFVd6Jg9QG
I've always wanted a deck with a neat rectangular water feature to one side. So you could have something more natural and sprawling on the right and then something clean and modern on left.

Also ignore anyone who suggests a wild lawn.
