Also… this year is the year I do something other than just having loads of grass. Open to suggestions 😅

Should they have entered a party wall agreement or done anything to notify our neighbours?
Why would they? They can build up to their boundary. There's no shared wall. Presumably as they applied for planning there would have been general notifications put out for interested parties. I guess it would have been polite for them to tell your neighbour but I don't think they have to tell them.
Neighbour (and you) might be interested to see if there are any new windows overlooking their property. Suggest they check the plans.

Swimming pool and a half pipe.
They should have notified and also posted for objections at planning. As long as it's not overhanging or draining into the other property I doubt there's any comeback. They aren't replacing the fence so no real party wall issue.

Check that the fence is actually built on the boundary and that the neighbour is indeed building on their own land. If they aren't, then a right stink could be kicked up.

Anyone got a good shower hair catcher.
My OH threw the old one away because it was rank, rather than cleaning it. Now the shower is blocked again and flooding the bathroom because of their hair.
Cheers

We have one of the McAlpine traps that you can lift out and clean from within the shower.
I think it is something like this:

We just use one of those cheap punched metal plates that sit in the plughole.
You can pick them up and throw the hair into the bin pretty easily.
Not these but similar to these:

Maybe some shrooms?

pull the ‘dead matter’ out of the plughole out and throw it in the toilet but do not flush it, they get the message eventually....

Not preventitive but this stuff is good at clearing blockages https://www.diy.com/departments/hg-drain-unblocker-1l/161653_BQ.prd

I would use these before resorting to chemicals.
Good for catching hair rats: -

Thanks, that’s very helpful and clarified my thinking. Looks like we can get under 4% on a 10-yr fixed, which is very tempting tbh.

Open to suggestions 😅
Idk why it's disappeared from iplayer, but Your Garden Made Perfect was good for more interesting projects https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000ry6w
See if you can find it.Garden Rescue with Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers is a bit more budget/simpler. Although in reality that show has a lot of free labour, whereas on average, the plant spend on Your Garden Made Perfect is only 10% of budget. So a £2k Garden Rescue could well be well north of £10k irl.
Given you have the play area and deck, I would start with that.
- plant some thin wispy shit around the deck to make it more interesting and section it off.
- plant big leafy interesting plants around the play area to make it more woodland+like and create places of interest for your daughter.
After that I would probably just add boarders. Pleached Trees in that back bed would give a nicer view too.
Idk what your kid is like, but unfortunately I think the reality is that it's really useful to have a decent sized patch of grass when you've got kids.
Depending how you feel about water safety a pond would be cool and will be great for nature and give interest. This guy is great on that stuff: https://youtube.com/@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton?si=P7EtYpSFVd6Jg9QG
I've always wanted a deck with a neat rectangular water feature to one side. So you could have something more natural and sprawling on the right and then something clean and modern on left. Also ignore anyone who suggests a wild lawn.

I have one of these. I used to have a fucking savage one that you needed gloves and old clothes to use, but it got thrown out because "we" never used it.
Cheers to everyone for the other suggestions

Party wall stuff….
Behind neighbour is building a two storey extension for which they have planning permission.
As you can see, it’s right up to our neighbours property line. Should they have entered a party wall agreement or done anything to notify our neighbours? They haven’t done anything so far and we only learnt it was a two storey extension when they started the 2nd storey this week.
It doesn’t really affect me but she’s a right cunt and has complained loads about stuff we’ve done to our house and our neighbours so want to make sure she’s above board.
