thanks - that's the window rather than the shower. The tiler is saying that the wall wasn't flat, and that mastic will help hide it - basically doesn't want to redo it.
I think we'll get a price from someone else and offer to deduct the cost from the outstanding invoice.
To be honest, I think I could have done that window sill better, and I've only ever done a tiny bit of tiling in my kitchen.
thanks again

I think the technical term is 'pony' - if there were issues these should be discussed ahead of time not used as excuses for a poor job after the fact. Have you paid them yet?
-
• #8754
Nope. £1900 outstanding

Is that a set of steps/stool for high cupboard access? do you have a make/model/link?
-
• #8756
Ok well that's good then!
I have the details of a good tiler and afaik I think we're in same area of London
-

The wall being flat is one thing, but they should really have built up the sill to allow a level installation. Very lazy on their side but I am sure they will begrudgingly repair when you suggest getting someone else to complete their work and look to chip them for that amount.

It's a stool for the high cupboards indeed.
From pluck.

Great, thanks.
Not going to stretch to a pluck kitchen but the stool will do! -

Anyone know of a solar reflective paint product that can be used to coat a GRP roof with top-coat already applied?
All the solar reflective paint products I've found so far state they're only suitable for bituminous surfaces...

My tiler says it isn't her job to level the plasterer or builders work, won't fix it unless we pay an extra £100.
She has said she will knock £100 off the bill.
Lol

It presumably is her job to tell you that unless someone else does their job again her job will be shit. So weird. You have to watch everyone like a hawk.

for context, this is a new loft conversion, with fresh plaster on the drywalling. She had a look at it and said it was a good job. I think maybe this bit got a bit tricky, but I don't see how putting a bit more adhesive underneath the tile would have been so hard so that the tiles and the edging are flush, rather than there being a lip at either end of the window recess

• #8764
They basically fucked it up, didn't think you'd care or notice and are now trying to lie their way out of it.
They wouldn't get a penny out of me until it's fixed.

Where to even begin here…

Probably with some new bonding plaster
-
• #8767
Yes, Bonding. But some PVA first.
Bonding is not difficult, just need a trowel/float/bucket. -
• #8768
Ah, thank you
I should mention
This is the best section
The rest, the (actual) concrete used to bond the tiles has taken great chunks of the surface of the blockwork off with it
Should have just tiled over the tiles :( -
• #8769
Absolute comedy response, is it even possible to find a level wall in London?
So odd that she didn't bring it up as an issue, especially as it's such a straightforward thing to sort out. Most tilers would have blagged an extra day's work out of it.
-
• #8770
Jus t bond it in stages doing the holes first unless they are huge holes in which case a bit of ready mix mortar in there first.

Did they bond the tiles with cement?
Back to the blockwork and start again...

Erm OK, how about the compromise that looks the least shit?
At this point I'd be sending a text that I'm not paying you to fix your own mistakes and I'll be using you rest of the money outstanding to get someone to fix it.
I've got such a low tolerance threshold for trades since we did our last place, they're all a bunch of cunts.

She is very bolshy and adversarial. We will take the discount just to get rid of her.
If anyone in east London wants to know a tiler to avoid, let me know.
^ that.
Why in a room that gets steamy and wet would you want to create an area for water to pool with no route of escape?
If he's careful it should only be the trim and those 2(?) shelf tiles that are sacrificed.
